Is it worth attempting to read spanish? I can speak decent spanish but I've read that Don Quixote uses old spanish which can be difficult to understand

I’d say if you don’t like Don Quixote, you don’t like reading, but I hate reading and I loved Don Quixote.
Quixote is great if you know Spanish. If you don't, then there's no reason to read it if it didn't connect with you after 50 pages.

Of course but if you struggle to find any enjoyment then its best to set it aside. When I didn't know any Spanish, I was hardly impressed with this book but after improving my Spanish well enough to sight-read Calderon, Quevedo and León with ease, the book opened itself up in a way that was highly unexpected.
it was fine 50 pages in but 900 pages of the same thing happening over and over was too much

I agree, but DQ is a book that actually aged pretty well and is still very enjoyable.
