Snaps are a pain but they're much better these days.
On Debian I literally had to compile Mesa 23.3 (Mesa 24 wouldn't compile) in order to have good performance in DXVK games. I basically had to make a runtime to get it to work.

GNOME is usable, that's it. It's nowhere near as good as KDE however.
For example, I have some old native Linux games which don't show their icons when launched properly. On KDE, I can fix that and have them use proper icons. On GNOME, I have no idea how you would do that.
New versions of Ubuntu come with Gnome Extensions that let you turn on tray icons.

why not Mint? it's ubuntu but good. sure there isn't a KDE flavor but still. frick snaps.
I prefer KDE. Cinnamon isn't bad, but I need proper Wayland support for video games (there's an Intel bug which makes all Vulkan games crash on Xorg).
I don't really like snaps, but at the moment I'm only using Firefox and Chromium, though theoretically I could just use Debian sid's repositories for Chromium and Firefox.

You still need to replace the Firefox snap with the official deb. And you need to install Flatpak + Discover integration. But after that it is better than Mint, yes.
should've gone for lubuntu and configured it with the breeze gtk theme, I'm on Debian testing and LXQt with Breeze theming is peak, it's basically KDE lite, especially since Debian bundles LXQt with xfwm4.
Everytime I try to make any linux install my main driver for work, I end up returning to Windows cause everything is just a pain in the ass for no reason for the smallest things.
