I want to keep my PC dust-free

Is it a good idea to put my computer inside a pantyhose? Air flow won't be restricted much and the fine pantyhose mesh will keep out large dust particles. For maintenance all I will ever have to do is replace the pantyhose covering the PC from time to time.

This is more about prevention rather than a cure.

The real cure is to shower more frequently

I have thought about this before and I don’t understand why it wouldn’t work.
It’s essentially nylon fabric you’ll be using which is essentially the same thing they use on things like speaker covers.

It won’t restrict airflow all that much and it will keep a lot of dust from coming in. The problem is it will also keep a lot of dust on the “filter” you just rigged so you need to clean it often, otherwise you are restricting airflow as dust accumulates and increasing temperatures little by little.”good” filters will restrict airflow by a lot meaning you need more powerful fans and there won’t be as much of a decrease in airflow incrementally because filters are better at filtering dust.

if you’re having as much of a problem with this then I have a question and suggestion to you.
Do you smoke indoors? Quit it.

I was looking for a method to keep my computer looking brand new at all times without a speck of dust. I am a preventionchad.

I don't understand how people have such massive dust problems, I'm too lazy to open up my PC, or vacuum my room, more than once or twice a year, and I've never had enough dust to come even close to causing a problem.

Because you are lucky to live in a place it doesn't have lots of dust
Use your brain a bit, pick a geography book and check how other places are different from yours

Can confirm, wrapped pantyhose around case fans for years before cases started coming with dust filters.

Just around the case fans? Why not the entire PC case?

Just get a case with removable dust screens in front of the fans that you can pull at wipe off on occasion. Then wear the pantyhose while doing productive tasks to better get in the mindset.

No because there are nooks and crannies in a computer case where dust can still enter without the aid of a fan.

Don't have enough fans sucking air out of the case that it creates negative pressure inside the case and that won't be a problem.

Dust can still enter the case through your intake fan and latch on somewhere even if you do have a positive pressure case.

Hence the dust covers for the fans you airhead.

Okay? But dust can still settle on your PC case making it look gray. What now atheist?

I'm sorry, but I really don't think someone of your intelligence is cut out for tasks involving working on a computer, anon. There are plenty of other opportunities for someone like you in life though, including ones where you can help other people with the dust that might settle onto their computers.

I just wanted a GOOD preventative solution to keeping BOTH my pc case and its components DUST FREE.

You were already given them anon. A regular proper dusting will work just as well as having a dust cover that will still need to be cleaned, and filters look much more proper. An airhead like you would be best suited toward working on simple tasks like cleaning that than racking your brain trying to solve complex problems. There's no shame in it, and a with happy, carefree personality you can raise the productivity of those around you even further!

            >A regular proper dusting will wo-ACK
I don't want to dust and I don't think you understand what prevention means. I could care less about those useless filters included with cases. 99% of the time dust goes right through them anyway.

You really should watch your tone, dear. You are thinking too hard and getting upset. As the anon you replied to said, a dust cover for your computer will keep dust from settling on it when not in use, but a properly cleaned room will prevent there from being dust to settle on your computer in the first place.

            >99% of the time dust goes right through them anyway.
Why do you believe one that you fashioned from your undergarments will do any better?

buy a case with dust filters in front, top and below. make sure they're easy to remove but also that the mechanism that keeps them in place works well (usually top is magnetic and front/bottom with good locking). i use the corsair carbide 678c (have a white and a black one), check out how the dust filters attach to it and try to find cases that have similar mechanisms

when i'm buying a case, my priorities are: 1. fit all the shit obviously (a lot of cases don't have 3.5 bays or very little), 2. airflow and 3. quality dust filter (front, top, below, good locking mechanism etc)

also, when you set up your fans, make sure you do it correctly. iirc you need more intake than exhaust. otherwise the dust that's in the room is gonna be going inside the case. remove the filters periodically to clean them (how often depends on room etc). clean the room at least once in a while as well. and don't eat there, if you do eat, make sure there's no crumbs or similar stuff falling on the floor. don't walk in on the room using shoes or slippers or whatever (i leave mine outside when i get in the room)

    >pantyhose

those are known to provide heat to skin. It depends I guess, your daily average temperature and if you are using a 3090 and a hot processor, if so, then is a big no.
