No, why would you do that? Use completely hackable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth instead So that, encrypted or not, everyone can record your fricking traffic.

You're a fricking zoomer for sure.

            [...]
so do you also plug your phone into ethernet? or are you letting that get hacked?

wpa2 finished with vulnerabilities in common wifi firmware. wpa3 started with a bunch of vulnerabilities. is it all fixed now? does anyone care? or do we cower hoping that we're all too boring for the nsa or equivalent to do anything to our networks?

Wifi will never be able to achieve the stability of a wired connection. It will always be a shitty unreliable method of connecting to the internet. You can't break the laws of physics.

Wireless cannot beat the latency of Ethernet. Wireless should only be used if the device does not support ethernet.(IOT devices/phones).

Now consider if you have outdoor cameras that can barely get a good wifi signal. There are many other use cases aside from testing latency while sitting right next to your router.

except it’s very possible for the throughput of a wap to be greater than the coax. on different networks of course.

  5. 2 weeks ago

you can do ethernet over coax. the adapters are expensive but they can do 2.5 gig so it's pretty good if your cables aren't too old or chewed up.
i wonder if there are hdmi to coax adapters, ideally with cec support. it'd be pretty cool if i could wire up every tv to every device in the house.

Ran a cat5e cable from my basement router to my living room. Ran another to my office. Didn't bother with any jacks or wall plates. Just drilled a hole in the floor and fished the cable down. There's a small 5 port switch in the living room that connects everything and its all hidden and tidy behind the tv stand. The office just has the single computer so meh just a single cable was all that was needed. Servers are kept in the basement. I can always add plate, etc later if I want. Be flush to the floor and not the wall but oh well.

like most examples of tech, you only need a wired connection to either do very important things or totally pointless ones. the vast majority of people do only the latter which is why the enthusiast computing space is largely about gaming

isnt this what fiber uses anyway?
