I don't think it's accurate to say they tell you nothing about the book. It tells you that this is a modern book part of modern trends. You might struggle to distinguish them from each other, but you certainly don't struggle to distinguish them from academic texts, or scifi novels, or any of the other trends that continue to mark their territory.

I think they look good. It doesn't work for every book, but I don't see anything intrinsically wrong with a kaleidoscopic crash of bright colors
