Ligotti's got a million of them.

Basically the entire Conspiracy Against the Human Race is black-pilled one-liners.

"... since the birthrights we toss
about are all lies fabricated to a purpose, as any student of humanity can verify. For those
who have given thought to this matter, the only rights we may exercise are these: to seek
the survival of our individual bodies, to create more bodies like our own, and to perish
from corruption or mortal trauma. This is presuming that one has been brought to term
and has made it to the age of being reproductively ready, neither being a natural birthright.
Stringently considered, then, our only natural birthright is a right to die. No other right has
ever been allocated to anyone except as a fabrication, whether in modern times or days
past. 3 The divine right of kings may now be acknowledged as a fabrication, a falsified
permit for prideful dementia and impulsive mayhem. The inalienable rights of certain
people, on the other hand, seemingly remain current: somehow we believe they are not
fabrications because hallowed documents declare they are real. Miserly or munificent as a
given right may appear, it denotes no more than the right of way warranted by a traffic
light, which does not mean you have the right to drive free of vehicular misadventures. Ask any paramedic as your dead body is taken away to the nearest hospital."

I don't know, given the laws of physics, if they truly wanted to make us go extinct they would have done so without letting us know it. Especially in the case of "FTL spaceship" that would allow it.
Therefore them appearing without shooting at us would be damn peaceful

Now if all we saw was Relativistic genocidal missiles without warning signals, now we'd shit ourself.
I guess you could be right if
        - we see Relativistic spaceships that could be missiles
        - we don't trust the warning signal, could be a lie
        - the spaceship don't start slowing down midway

There's already "The killing star" if you want realistic genocidal alien attack.

Who know how a real contact would happen?
Mathematically it should so far be impossible for two species to have the same technological level,
Meaning the Apes civilization couldn't possibly cause a threat to the advanced Techno-God civilization.

Then come the Fermi paradox, how to explain we didn't see an early civilization already if it's possible to travel. Are we just unlucky? or is it for other reasons.

            Anonymous

I said "If they want us extinct", then they have no reason to waste time showing off/posturing. Unless you make SciFi scenario like a method of transportation that don't allow a sudden strike, or a preparation time where they first obtain some human DNA then develop a virus to wipe us out specifically.

There's good reason to think that a species capable of space travel would have more rational intention than a Ytuber, especially if they don't have FTL and would devote significant time reaching us.
With FTL, all bet are off, if only because the type of "FTL" travel would change wether or not instant genocide is possible or easy to defend against.

Panicking over aliens being real is an upper-class priviledge. Every working-class person will come to the understanding if they don't go to work the next day they won't eat the next week. The poor really don't care who rules over them.

  10. 2 years ago

    >needing to adapt it to their beliefs
Wouldn't be too hard, they had to do that what, like 10 times already when they had to accept that the earth wasn't the center of the universe, then that the sun wasn't either, then that earth wasn't 6000 years old, then that human were not different from animals, that demonic possession and apparitions were in fact epilepsy and schizophrenia, etc.

The most moronic among them will simply close their eyes to reality. That's what flat-earthers, space deniers, evolution deniers, etc. are already doing.

In fact it would be way easier for religions to adapt their beliefs to this than to a lot of great discoveries from the past. The real problem would emerge when we meet those aliens and they are full-blown atheists and tell us how dumb and primitive we are for still believing in our religions while tipping their chrome-plated hats.

    >Majority of people won't work anymore
Don't see why. I'm absolutely fascinated by space and the perspective of finding life outside of earth but I don't think our lives would change even if they landed here to speak to us. Only the lives of the most powerful and influential people among us would change.

I dont think it will cause much upheaval people are basically used to the idea that other intelligent life might exist. Science went from having no direct evidence of planets around other stars to a catalog of thousands of detections and nobodies religion collapsed. The most likely detection scenario would be finding a radio or light signal that can be said to have a 99% chance of being artificially generated, but nobody will have any idea what information it contains. People will argue endlessly about what the signal means and this will become a new religion.

There's keys element that would change everything:

    (a) the alien are right there with highly superior FTL spaceship and ready to answer us.
    Or
    (b) it's a weak non-descript signal of an early alien civilization who may not be alive anymore.
    Or
    (c) its very strong signals coming from a far superior alien civilization clearly in a golden age.

    With case (a)
    - meltdown from every incompatible religious dogma
    - adaptation of every compatible dogma
    - sudden an strong xenophobe movement who blame everything bad happening on them and rationalize hate against those "oppressive" aliens (because they are doing better than us)
    - political clusterfrick as countries will seek to obtain alien technologies and who know the aliens motive or opinion about supporting humans

    With case (b)
    - FAKENEWS! Clearly this is a lie created by basedtist for a giant manipulation conspiracy. Proof: we will not be receiving this exact signal ever again (or
    - religious denial/apathy, it's not changing their life, it's not having impact
    - massive depression if we don't find explanation about why aliens may look dead
    - xenophobe movement, using aliens quasi-absence as proof of human superiority and necessity to do X to do better than them

    With case (c)
    - fakenews claims but less problematic because there's too much information available
    - religious meltdown/adaptation as information comm
    - constant comparison between our civilization and theirs, acceptance FTL may not exist
    - weak xenophobe movement, I'd say they'll have trouble with "superior aliens" who ignore us.
    - strong xenophobia if the aliens are broadcasting what could be lies/propaganda
    - massive boon toward space exploration/industries
Maybe the safest case as we are just encouraged to be better.

The existence of sapient alien life is actually a cornerstone of my religion.

What will challenge my religion is whether or not they can have meaningful interaction with human society.

With the way my religion works, extraterrestrial civilizations must exist, but their physical ability to interact with our civilization is stunted, in such a way so that they may choose not to expend resources attempting to interact with us.
