Incredibly obnoxious read. I could not make it past the first 2 chapters.

"World War Terminus" made me laugh out loud.

this is one of the most epic sci-fi novels ever written

it's proto-cyberpunk. it inspired the genre

This was literally like 30 years before cyberpunk, and is completely disconnected from the context of cyberpunk, which was the birth of the personal computer, and 80's society in general.

30 years? "Neuromancer" was 1984, which was all of 15 years after "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep". And microcomputers existed at the time; they were just in offices. Look up "The Mother Of All Demos", which Xerox did in 1968.

Most 'acclaimed' literature is bad to modern audiences because the ideas that were new and original have been so heavily referenced and rehashed the original material comes off as boring and uninspired with JUST the writings strength being what keeps you engaged and niche fiction tends to have weak writing.
There are exceptions, the Twilight Zone original series still holds up with its shitty effects, sets, and acting today because Rod Serling was a helluva writer and didn't do topical shit at all.

"Twilight Zone" did plenty of topical stuff. "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street" was a metaphor for the Cold War.

nothing wrong with World War Terminus. sometimes stories just need an event like that to get the setting where it needs to be so that the story can be told. Also, if you cant read a 200 page novel that is easily able to be read in a day or two, if not even just for the purpose of enhancing the quality of your bait thread, then you seem like a douchebag. Probably a seething andy, mad that he cant into empathy like a real boy.

Is not a long read, writing style is very cheesy though. Was expecting something like Roadside Picnic, different strokes different folks.

That's the biggest whiplash when you first read a Dick book. They're very goofy. And they have this off-beat stoner energy to them. Adaptations make Dick out to be a lot grittier and cooler than he actually was.
Dick was a neurotic dork, who struggled with mental illness, and hung out with losers. That's the real heart of his books.
