exFAT support on Android is shit until recently. Just format your card to fat32 and it should be fairly reliable, but no files >4GB.

But on Ubuntu 11.04 (?), I accidentally started an install for 32bit graphics drivers, cancelled it, and immediately corrupted the entire install just from that. in your case i could just about guarantee you could have fixed it by editing xorg.conf or just generating a new one
