Can this man go 1 minute without giving away his narcissistic obsessions? He talks about this for 40 seconds, makes a point about how it's about trapping users in the ecosystem, fair, but then out of nowhere he changes the subject to developers "wanting to feel respectable" (total non sequitur, given his first point) and makes it about them instead. Everything he talks about ends up on his programmer superiority complex lens.

maybe you are just projecting your own narcissism onto him

This. He will make sure that EVERYTHING circles back around to how he was right about something and the other party was wrong.

Guess achieving commercial success, critical acclaim, having millions on your bank account and being considered one of the most creative minds in a hundred billion dollar industry only goes so far

Love jblow. Is he right on this? Probably not.
"Never attribute to malice what you can attribute to incompetence."
I think he should consider this for a lot of his takes.

This quote is often misused. For random acts of stupidity, it makes sense, but if certain actions are incentivized and optimal, it doesn't apply anymore. If you think about it, optimal actions generally don't arise from stupidity.
For example, look at dark patterns in websites. They are used because they increase some metrics and eventually the bottom line of a corporation. It is definitely malice in the sense that the user is disrespected.
That said, the incentives JBlow pointed out here don't seem plausible to me and he's still wrong.

This Black person talks about “deep knowledge” (kek) and about how developers ain’t shit anymore, but yet he’s an indie gamedev with one notable game. He’s the most inconsequential type of dev. And he talks about “deep knowledge”

    no.
APIs that are too "simple" likely don't capture a wide variety of complex problems.
