>be me
>senior engineer for big company
>job is 100% remote
>Low stress
>Make $170k a year
>Live in rural buttfrick town. Rent is like $600 a month.
>Investing like $7k a month
>Get interview at facebook
>If I take 2 weeks off and study DSA shit for like 2 weeks I'll probably pass and get an offer
>Look at Facebook salaries
>Total TC is like 300k
>The problem is the paycheck averages less than 170k liquid annually
>The numbers seem high but most of that is stock
>They also require moving to high SES cities
>NYC apartments are l like >4k a month
Is it worth it to even take one of these jobs if I get it?
Should I just use my vacation doing something else instead of studying?

Big tech sucks dick dude, take your WLB in your existing job and enjoy life. Don't be a b***h for some useless product manager at big tech.
>Investing like $7k a month
This is more than you'd be investing if you took FB offer. The only thing to consider is five years from now FB will look good on the resume, and you'd be able to use it to grow. If that's what you want. Honestly if you have a girl/family I'd just stay put. If you want adventure (and stress) go w FB
This. It’s all about either growth or living peacefully with someone.
Also don’t forget that your investments will anyway make you retire early
No. Try to use your offer to get a raise in your current role.
Sorry, I misread your post.
I wouldn't waste your vacation. Take the interview; if you get the offer, I would only use it to try and get a raise in your current role.
Other updates I guess are relevant:
>I'm 34
>No wife. No kids. No girlfriend. No house.
>I pretty much just lift weights, bang, draw, and chill with my mom.
>I've already worked at a lot of great companies. Most of them are in defense (think of the big guys, and I've worked there)
This is the smart move but all the most talented engineers and I have been pounding that table for months and getting nowhere.
>This is more than you'd be investing if you took FB offer.
Can I ask what makes you come to this conclusion? I feel like the stock might be worth it.
>bang, draw, and chill with my mom.
You could've done better with that phrasing
Locksneed-Farting boy here just said he fricks his own mother
This is IQfy language for "I don't have any money and no idea how awesome it makes life."
Whether I work at meta or not, I'll still be retiring early. Have fun working through your 60s homosexuals.
I think this is probably true.
That's not too outrageous.
It's true.
>>I pretty much just lift weights, bang, draw, and chill with my mom.
Holy fricking based.
>chill with my mom.
I lost my mom in 2022 and I wish I had moved closer and spent more time with her.
Not telling you what to do, but it's something worth considering.
That is a terrible offer compared to what you have right now
boomerbook is on it's way out
Why tf did you apply if you wouldn't consider taking the job? From the sound of it you don't need the resume boost and big tech notoriously sucks ass. Unless you reaaally wanna work for zuckbook in nyc instead of chilling in your current town I don't see why you'd piss a low stress high pay job away for something actively looking to replace human roles with AI within a decade
>Why tf did you apply if you wouldn't consider taking the job?
No offense but you clearly don't know shit about how this works.
Once you get good enough, the recruiters come to you. I didn't apply for anything. A recruiter reached out to me said we want you to join our team -- does this sound like something you'd like? If so, I'll let you schedule an interview.
>you don't need the resume boost
True
> Big tech notoriously sucks ass.
Everybody says that but I like big tech. I hate small startup bullshit.
Don’t bother. You’re already comfy.
I'm in the exact same position OP.
The only difference is I'm already in NYC. I work at a big tech (make like 230ish) and am interviewing with Meta right now, finishing out the final round this week.
The big tech company I work at is cozy though and I think meta would work me 2x as hard. I'm focused on getting the offer first though, I suggest you do the same.
Also don't listen to the other people in this thread, they don't know what they are talking about.
How much are you paying for rent?
$2900 for a 1 bedroom. Not exactly a nice apartment and not the best area, but it's nothing I would call bad
There are countless blogs and forums by fb employees about what its really like to work there....
Meta stock is a fricking money printer is the comp that matters of you take the gig.
Moving to nyc you will get exposed to an ocean of beautiful women, though i cant say how moronic they are or what the dating is like, but i will say that working in nyc a few days a month here and there.... there are countless young beautiful girls...
>Meta stock is a fricking money printer is the comp that matters of you take the gig.
This is what I want to believe, but I'm unsure. As i'm doing the math here, I think you might be right.
>the money is not worth it bro
I don't really believe that, here's why:
Imagine the salary is $325k, and $170 is liquid. That leaves $155k a year in stock.
You'd get roughly $4500 liquid per pay period.
Let's say rent and expenses in NYC are $6000 a month.
You're only pocketing $3k a month, leaving you with $39k extra at the end of the year ($72k after two years).
In two years, you'd walk away with $310k in stock. And that's assuming it doesn't go up (which is a big assumption).
Basically that means you work there for two years and pocket roughly $382,000.
Even if you sold that immediately after 2 years and slapped it in a MMMF, at the current rate gives a return of $1687.16 a month.
tl;dr - you can basically work there for 2 years, frick off, move to the country, and just chill.
>This is what I want to believe, but I'm unsure. As i'm doing the math here, I think you might be right.
Like most things, timing is everything. You want stock and alot of it, and you do not sell as it vests. Meta stock will go up or down based on the us economy, thats it, the end, that is as good a bet as you can hope for imo...
take WLB over salary any day. You already make good money. I make 40k less than you and am constantly stressed. I’d kill to be in your position. the money is not worth it bro
kek, I recently interviewed with Meta (didn't pass, but I wasn't taking it seriously since I just signed an offer with somewhere else)
they must be expanding big time, looks like they're hiring a lot of ML software engineer types recently
>wants to larp about a job at meta
>forgets they're called meta now
>splurges 'facebook' all over the larp
>gets called out by anon about it
>goes on angry rant about it
the end
Oh shut the frick up. Like I'm going to post my LinkedIn on IQfy.
depends entirely on the nature of your current job. $170k is good but are you sacrificing your long term career development? at facebook you will learn skills that will benefit you in the long run.
you're all dumb for trying to 'career'.
just take the job where you do something that you want to be doing, otherwise go do something else.
you don't need to take the highest offer for doing something you don't give a shit about
figure out what you want to do, and go do it.
you want to work on Facebook products at Facebook? go do it, no? then don't.
It's this simple there are no right or wrong answers. In your current situation you will win no matter what. Flip a coin.
jewyork will drain the life out of you. Try to stay for at least 2 to 3 years if you're going to work there.
That's what I'm afraid of. I'm almost positive i'll hate it.
>Also don’t forget that your investments will anyway make you retire early
Yeah but i feel like I'm behind.
homosexual larp. Op is a homosexual. Bye.
This is obviously a larp or you are just literally moronic. NYC is a Black person infested crime ridden dump and you’ll pay state and city taxes for the privilege of living there and riding the ape cage subway everyday. 170k is a rural area is like 500k in that shithole
OP wrote all that shit and can't tell it's a worse deal?
america is dissolving in like 8 months and there will be a large civil war breaking out which will last almost a decade so i would just stay in your comfy rural red state flyover town unless you want to be in the middle of the action when Black person hordes start rampaging and looting the cities
