you can read the book without being a psycho...
also why is computer science shilled to anyone without a direction in life, its oversaturated if you want a job
It's weird how things work out. I saw the memes about SICP on IQfy in 2008 before I ever did any programming. Then I got into programming in 2016. Then I started getting interested in Scheme mid last year. And the 'car' and 'cdr' stuff already made sense to me because I remembered the "my other car is a cdr" thing from some of the IQfy memes from so many years ago.
Instead of making lisp and sicp into a meme, can we try turning John Ousterhout and Tcl/Tk into a meme?
Let's maybe take a photo of John Ousterhout from google images and photo shop him into that one meme of someone riding a car, and put stuff on it like "hey kid, get in, we're going to write Tcl scripts" or something.
>hey can we
Anon we live in the age of AI and free Photoshop if you want to force a meme use one of those two to create a bunch of shitty memes and then shit up the board with them and slide threads talking about how great Tcl and TK is. If you are too lazy to make a meme about something why should I care. Even the village idiot can make one now a days.
yes. also there is how to design programs (htdp) which is probably better to read before you start sicp
both are lisp based
we are going through htdp in this serv rn, if you want to join https://discord.gg/tn7VyxMA
then we are going through sicp
also after both of those, then books like taocp and the algorithms book are good ideas
I've never read this book, but I've been an engineer for over a decade. Will this offer me anything other than the opportunity to turn into one of those repulsive troony lisp/haskell autists who can't find employment and don't contribute anything of practical value to society and are doomed to die alone with their github stars maxing out at double digits?
I've only read a bit, but the gist I get from all the memeing and what I've read and watched in lectures is that it provides you with an overall understanding of computer programming which, for an experienced programmer like you, would probably fill in some unexpected gaps in your understanding. It's not supposed to be "about" Lisp, which is more-or-less just used as an example language.
It's supposed to be quite mind-opening and provide and expansive framework for understanding the actual nature of what you're doing when you sit down to code.
I don't know if that's what you're looking for, or if other, better-read anons agree with my rough understanding, but that's the best I've got.
>if i read this old MIT text book will i magically become an unemployed autist
a decade of employment hasn't prevented IQfy from rotting your mind, either
Csi is a scam
>newfound purpose in life
oh sweet, sweet summer child...
Yes
>t. wizard
She is literally me
t. wizard
Not for you. You didn't attend class and missed your chance to be a wizard.

HOLYSHITE ITS 1986
>$10
Maybe 15 fricking years ago.

No, but only because SICP is not $10
You should still buy it and read it and do the exercises
How is this better than TAOCP which has loads of good exercises?
For starters what is TAOCP?
The Art of Computer Programming.

Must be a trap to become a tranime obsessed neet.
I miss /prog/... 10 years of sufferin/g/...
Keep it alive in your heart, don't have discussions about werecows, read your SICP every day, and pražští jezdci will never go extinct
For me, yes.
For you, no.
(Proof: You made this gay thread and I didnt)
Simple as.
