          I think there's a good chance that he'll try to add a borrow checker but fail.
          If he does manage it chances are that it'll be far more limited than Rust, I've never seen him talk about separating mutable from immutable pointers.

          today i tried to install Ruby 3.1.2 and Ruby 2.7.4 at the same time on Debian (sid). it doesn't work because they require different versions of openssl. sometimes you do in fact need something like Docker (or Nix, Guix, or whatever)

            The only way to handle multiple versions of Ruby on a single system is using an external self contained shim like nvm for the crap that is Nodejs and Pyenv for Python (ironically, this one is a fork of a project similar made for Linux).

            the issue specifically arose with asdf-vm, which wraps around rbenv's ruby-build (https://github.com/rbenv/ruby-build). there are workarounds (https://github.com/rbenv/ruby-build/discussions/1940), but it's all a bit shit

      to expand on that, zig provides more tools for abstraction, but the development philosophy behind hare is to sacrifice briefness for the ability to jump into the code at any point and follow it to the lowest level without having to study many intermediate abstractions before
