Gentoo's philosophy is "Have fun" and while that's a good thing, you all morons are wasting time, effort, power and everyone's time.
There is no reason to use this shit, and there are distros that
- let you compile packages yourself
- let you build them with your own custom useflags
- let you tweak / change / build your own kernel
- let you work efficiently without the absolutelly moronic approach of compiling everything.
People that use it are nothing more that either children who like their computer going brrrr and making silly noises or neets that know enough about tech and are so devoted to the stallman philosophies that thet are fine with accepting their complete rejection of any sensible approach to computing.
Sorry IQfyentelmen, while you might know your shit, you are all useless
>time, (...) and everyone's time.
Intentional.
Wasting your own time for coompiling software
Wasting others time to learn the intricate ins and outs of software that you will bring no sensible contributions to
I mostly agree, except that Gentoo has nothing to do with "Stallman philosophies". In fact, he explicitly said he has a low opinion of it since it distributes nonfree software in its official repositories.
There are better projects that achieve this and more like void's xbps-src
I use it as a daily driver and builds take a few minutes because I run it on a threadripper
Just because (You) conditioned yourself to using very minimal software doing nothing with the knowledge you gained along the way, you are a waste of space

Yeah but arguably Voidlinux is more of a 'Toy' OS than Gentoo.
I got filtered by eselect profile list when trying to install this garbage. I admit it stopped me from having lewd thoughts and cooming in the meanwhile.

Portage is ridiculously overcomplicated, you don't need 90% of its features.
Besides, most of the actually useful features aren't even that essential.
There are some people that do. Read the Gentoo Forums
I don't get the Gentoo hate. It doesn't take long on a new processor and the only complicated things is just to learn Emerge. If any of you think Gentoo is 'redudant' or 'unnecessary' you are a Stallinist Systemd-Tard.

Every point itt changes if you are a dev and want to use your system as a convenient test bed and have your own software interface with the code you already use as an end user.
"I want to do work on my computer, not work on my computer" is not a meaningful distinction when your own projects target Linux

Based, I really like the distro. I daily drove it for a year. But I am just a huge gayming homosexual. I went back to windows when I got a 3090 gpu. I wanted to play the latest vidya games. Too bad valve still cant get these homosexual game dev's to enable EAC and other anti-cheats onto their titles. Proton is insanely good, I am surprised with it's progress.

did you look into KVM and passing your GPU to a Windows VM using VFIO while you were using Gentoo?

Considering the games I want to play. The anti cheat is the wiener block. VM/VFIO still leads to a anti cheat problem. Because some of the anti-cheats out there will ban a VM if it's detected. I don't want to lose my steam account with $2,000-$3,000 worth of games.

Stop using shitty distros to solve problems that have been solved.
There are people out there who unironically use it because they have no better things to do with their lives so coompiling shit fulfills all their unvaluable time, that's just how life is.
I bet not a single gentoo user spent even a minute analysing source code they're installing on their machine (mostly because they're too dumb to do so anyway).

Bleeding edge gcc
Bleeding edge miscompiling compiler.
>miscompiling
moron, if gcc didn't work we wouldn't have any linux distros
Id just use gcc stable if i was doing that, like it isnt a pain in the ass as it is. You need the experimental bleeding edge version.
https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/sys-devel/gcc
the current version I have on my install with ~amd64 is behind what's currently on my arch install
whenever a show your desktop thread presents itself, I rarely observe neofetch showing gentoo
Same.
