It's blatantly obvious at this point that the main reason for the delay is that GRRM is reworking the ending of the story.

It's blatantly obvious at this point that the main reason for the delay is that GRRM is reworking the ending of the story. He told D&D the basic outline of the entire story already. We can assume that all the big beats of the ending of the TV show--Arya killing the Night's King, Dany going nuts and massacring people, Jon killing Dany, Bran becoming king--were part of GRRM's original plan for how ASOIAF would end. But when he saw how much people completely hated the ending of the TV show, he panicked, and has been trying fruitlessly to do something different with the ending of the books.

It's definitely that. Look at his body. Clearly can't control himself when given freedom

I doubt it honestly, with how D&D ignored setup I can believe they changed enough of the ending to not give a shit. George would not just completely waste characters like Euron, Aegon, Lady Stoneheart, etc.

He cares but he keeps getting pulled away for TV shit, HBO meetings, writers strikes, fan conventions etc. Also he runs a book store. He can't just stay still and write books, and that's what writing needs.

Agreed. The idea that George wanted to make bran king just wouldn’t make sense in the books. Hardly anything about how the show needed felt like it would have made sense in the books. How unsatisfying it would be for the white walker threat to be defeated by a battle. Obviously George could have told the show runners about the white walker war being drawn out longer in the books. But still there is this expectation based on what has been put in the books that the way the white walker threat will be dealt with Will not be simply by winning battles but that some sort of ancient knowledge about them will need to be revealed. It even seems like the white walkers might not be defeated by strength of arms but through some sort of peace deal by Jon

    look at his latest post
    >Words of Wisdom = WoW = Winds of Winter
    >that flower looks very similar to one of the dreams of spring concept covers
    >the whole quote references dreams of spring
    >it s also a response to Preston and OpenAI that he s the only one who can finish it

maybe I m reading too much into it, but i think that Winds might be coming out soon

You are. George has grown to hate this demanding, hateful and spiteful fans, and plans on leaving on leaving every storyline in the midst of a cliffhanger from now until the end of time just to spite you all

alll our thoughts and prayers have reached God, who trough his Grace has sent The Holy Spirit to George to finish it
George literally has divine intellect right now

As someone who used to check his blog literally daily for updates until I gave up about a year or so ago, I can confirm that he uses that blue flower ALL THE TIME. It means nothing, unfortunately.

The only thing probably they took from the original ending is Danny going nuts and using her dragon on kings landing. Everything else was probably made up by the show team. There is no nights king in the books. Bran will probably not be king. I don’t see why the townspeople would accept bran. He could end up becoming like the Illuminati where he controls everything behind the scenes from up in his weirwood tree beyond the wall. Because I don’t see bran leaving where he is at currently in the books. Since he can warg and time travel, I don’t see why he would need to be south of the wall physically. It doesn’t make sense.

The way the book is setting up the ending will be very different. It makes more sense that the show runners wanted to do their own thing and that they probably couldn’t have followed George’s ending after changing so many pieces after season 4. It just wouldn’t have worked anymore.

What’s funny about this is that he almost certainly has no idea what exactly it is that people he hates. He probably thinks the whole council with the fat boy going “let’s become a heckin’ democracy” is good.

The guy caught lightning in a bottle as far as I can tell. The books are actually not half as good as the show or their sales would suggest, and nothing else he wrote is particularly good. I think he has no idea what made them decent and what made the show decent and frankly, there’s probably no way to end the ride that is satisfying considering GoT is like the literary equivalent of internet porn or fast food. It tingles the nerves but is always dissatisfying in the end.

    >But when he saw how much people completely hated the ending of the TV show
People didn't hate the ending so much as they hated how rushed (and thereby thin) the series became. Frick, it took a season for a character to traverse the continent but by the end we had a single episode where a group goes from the south to far north of the wall, sends a fricking runner back to the wall, runner sends word all the way back south they need help, and receives said help by Dany going north. They literally go from the south to the far north, from the far north to the south, then back from the south to the north--by the established logic of the series it should have taken weeks but we have a runner making it back to the wall and a raven alerting Dany who flies all the way north within a few hours. All so "the Davids" could go do the Disney+ deal they were dropped from.
