The UI is actually excellent, but the backend is software-based, and that's the reason it sucks.

We are all still waiting the arrival of the Olive Video Editor, which is basically a premiere clone. I urge you to check it out.
It's backend is completely hardware accelerated. That is what makes it stand out.

dumb question but why doesnt it use ffmpeg ? can it not do hardware accelerated stuff with it as a backend? or is ffmpeg not usable for a "normal" video edit software?

DaVinci Resolve is pretty much the most powerful video editor on Linux right now.

shit licensing and shit terms of use, I do not touch this clusterfrick. I really don't trust forum admins saying shit you can't read on their real website. Their forum is also a clusterfrick.

Shotcut is okay-ish if you're looking for a replacement. I've used it plenty of times before and while it's basically a glorified FFMPEG gui it still gets the job done.

True, this is also an option. Damn. Is there's anything this thing can't do?

It's eternally neglected by devs and there is no synergy between compositor and video editor so you have to do some moronic exporting, at this point it's just better to use dedicated video editor.
