I highly doubt that these are the same individuals. Like I don't care if Microsoft stops supporting Windows 10 because all the software on my computer runs locally with no need to connect to the cloud or someone else's server, except for my browser. I have some old ass version of Microsoft Office, Adobe CS3, Winamp, single-player games from before 2005, and a bunch of foss applications from sourceforge. The people whining about no longer getting updates are the same fools who think a smartphone can't be used once it no longer receives updates.

in windows 11, you have to now press windows key + s to screen shot or function key + print screen.

          >but why

because your print screen button (if your keyboard still has it) has been rerouted to now open the snipping tool, which is an app that lets you take screenshots but with more steps 🙂

Why do they keep making new versions of Windows? How does this benefit them other than incrementing a number and reskinning part of their DE every couple years? What if they just stayed at 10 forever?

The original plan actually WAS to stay at 10 forever and just turn Windows into either a rolling release or what Debian does where you have multiple channels of incremental updates. (MS already does this with LTSC, etc.) But around 2020 or so they were working on a new mobile shell and apparently test users got confused about whether or not it was a new OS. People apparently also got confused at the idea of what looked like an incremental upgrade to win10 not being compatible with non-TPM machines that ran win10 just fine.

So eventually MS gave up and rolled a lot of those changes into win11.

This makes it sound mysterious as frick but it simply is an evolution of the languages that existed in the Iberian peninsula before the Latins, Germans and Mooriggers came. It is a region surrounded by mountains and it resisted external influences for a long time.

Windows is truly going to be dumbed down for normies while normies continue to get cucked & fricked in the ass like slaves. And with the rate they're going, MSFT and AAPL will have the same practices with regards to how they manage their software ecosystem (you can only run it on devices that *they* certified) and just accelerate more useless tech because they want to see infinite growth for their shareholders. next thing you know in 5 years you'll have to pay for *every* minor update they make :^)

Microsoft has always been trying to get people on a payment treadmill. Back in the 90's it was: "Buy this New Features! Less Bugs!", but it really meant "New Features!, New and Different Bugs!". Recently the payment treadmill has been software subscriptions and you are the product via ads.

I am pretty sure the goal for microsoft going forward is to monetize the AI stuff. It takes a huge capital investment (at least hundreds of millions of dollars) to train a LLM. Microsoft is going to charge rental fees to access cloud based AI services that they run and build all of that into windows so it is basically useless without paying the subscription.

I can't find it rn, but I read something that indicated microsoft was planning to order a huge number of custom designed AI accelerators from TSMC and build out their own massive supper computer, and my assumption it was to build out this software as a service infrastructure.

is there a more comfy setup?

To be fair there is a bunch of stuff I like about Windows nowadays, such as WSL letting you isolate linux shit so that it doesnt polute your crap, windows sandbox so you dont have to run suspicious shit non-isolated, winget, defender integration.

I also like a bunch of shit with linux, such as flatpaks making it so that you are isolating programs to their own sandboxes instead of just letting shit run wild.

Benefits and negatives with both OS systems.

Personally, all windows machines I ever run I use education license, download the compliance toolkit baselines and implement the security baselines for most modern version before manually going through each GPO setting (takes about 30-60m) turning off all telemetry possible, and then going into the GUI settings turning off all privacy invasive settings (such as using "cloud-enhanced content", such as "bing searches" when you just want to do a normal search on your own computer). Then I go into advanced firewall and disable everything (making sure to copy+paste the existing wireless display firewall rules into GPO so that the functionality still works even though security baseline is applied).

Takes some tinkering, but you don't really have to ever do it again.
