That's a screenshot of pre-OSX macos from the late 90s before it had memory protection. An application could trash another application's memory, that's why it says you probably should restart.
win9x had memory protection in theory, but in practice programs trashed kernel space frequently due to the extremely broken way microsoft wrote the kernel. NT was better but consumers didn't run NT. It wasn't until XP that consumers used the NT kernel by which time OS X was already out and had BSD derived NextStep levels of memory protection and kernel design.

From what I remember, in both win9x, pre 2000/XP and macos, pre OSX, there were no concepts of memory protection, privilege levels, or file access rights.
My suspicion is macos was worse than win9x, unless you installed a lot of windows software, since there was so much more to install.

Omg! Thank you for saying it. I have to use a mac because I work as a sales intern at large ad agency. And my boss wants the whole team on the same page. So were all forced to use macs. I fricking hate macs! The user experience is garbage. Horrible multitasking. Cant even drag and snap windows to the left and right sides of the screen with the mouse pointer. The start bar on top takes over controls of whatever program you last clicked on. I fricked up so many things because I had two windows open and didn't notice that the menu bar changed. The dock is fricking stupid. I'd rather launch my programs from a desktop icon itself then the dock. Minimize and maximize is bullshit too doesnt cover the whole screen when i want it to. Apps dont close properly.
"wah its not windows!!" look into any of your complaints for half a second and you either learn something new or solve them. Fricking children everywhere.
Apple makes some really bad unergonomic operating systems. Macos is stuck in the 80's and not in a good way. It's been almost 40 years and still no good multi tasking support. I hate macos because its not logical it has no flow. It forces me to rewire my brain to think like a mac user. Its painful In windows there are certain things that you expect to be there and are just there. In mac you expect basic quality of life features but theyre not there. It's been almost 15 fricking years. Why dont macs have drag and snap to the sides of the screen? Window management in mac os is fricking garbage! The mac start bar is a piece of shit that actively sabotages me and interferes with my work. 99% of the time I have split screen open. If I accidentally press on a window or think I pressed on a window and start doing commands I can lose hours of progress. Macs fricking suck with multi tasking. Frick mission control and frick stage manager! I dont want to have to keep swapping between desktops just to manage my open windows and apps. The worst part about all of this is just how restricted the mac system is. All the cool novelty hardware shit does not make up for macs inherent shittyness. Like whats the point of mission control and sidecar if you need to buy more hardware just to make the mac usable? I'm an iphone user i also have an ipad. I found no practical use for sidecar. Universal control is cool but the same thing can be accomplished by adding a second monitor. I think tablets are waste and are only good for entertaining toddlers and apple users. Ive begun to hate my iphone the more I use my mac. Because I see just how restrictive apples ecosystem is. Windows is shit now but windows 7 was perfection. Windows 7 was what macos wished it could be, but truthfully macos could never be as good as windows 7 was. My first computer had vista on it and I much prefer it to macos. Frick apple! Frick you! And frick steve jobs corpse!
nah, he's right
macos is corporate spyware propped up by cheap marketing gimmicks, designed exclusively for brainlets who don't know or care about computers, freedom, or privacy

first post, best post.

any operating system that isn't Plan 9
More like Plan B am I right?
Cringe take. MacOS is a really well engineered and optimised operating system.
>really well engineered and optimised
Really missing sir at the end
That's Os X, not MacOs
>literally says Mac OS 8

In what universe, it is likely someone interacted with apple's shitware 20 years ago (2002) outside of computer class in elementary school.

yes, that is poor design
>itunes for mac os 8
I thought the earliest iTunes could run on was OS 9?

macos is very good. of all the actual shit software.. you choosing macos suggests some kind of mental illness

fair fair, mac os is a pain to deal with because no one with a brain runs and no one actually does cool shit.
