i just like the navigation more if i want to click on a particular episode and the configuration to always default to a certain sub given specific parameters of the subtitle format and language is useful
ill check it out! the worst thing about mpv to me is going into command prompt for every little thing, even for a small setting change there's absolutely no GUI

it has a ton of micro features that make it way better to watch shows or anime on, compared with my experience trying it in mpv. even like hotkeys to advance one single frame or go back one single frame, contrast/color settings, but another big thing i liked about it is its pretty minimal like mpv given that it has all these features

how's the speed when compared to mpv? is it as quick to just load up and play?

yeah i never once thought that it seemed slow or hiccuped, i tried a good bit of “recommended” media players with the same amount of control or sophistication before settling on potplayer. but you may just end up not really preferring it for whatever reason, which is fair

literally one uncomboed key in mpv you doofus
>the configuration to always default to a certain sub given specific parameters of the subtitle format and language is useful
The sub-select.lua script ads this functionality to mpv. Idk why your mpv has problems with switching contrast/skiping single frames but it works on my machine

you can set default subs and audio on mpv, doesn't even need a lua script

RTFM >advance one single frame or go back one single frame
, and . >contrast/color settings
1 and 2 for contrast
3 and 4 for brightness
5 and 6 for gamma
7 and 8 for saturation
Serious question
Can I use mpv on windows to play HDR/DV content? If yes, how do I configure it? Most HDR capable players are barebones (windows integrated one) or literally shit (VLC).
just start playing it
Why does VP9 codec cause MPV to go apeshit with a million bugs?

Sure if you just care about the s/alang. If you want to filter things like sing[s]/song[s] or a specifically named sub track then sub-select makes that possible
Thanks, do I need to rename it to youtube-dl?
Also, I don't see ffmpeg in my install folder either. I swear when I had mpv on a previous machine, after extracting the .7z, both ffmpeg and youtube-dl were there in addition to the usual mpv folders.
I got nothing this time

Unfortunately I don't know that one. You need the latest fanciest shit with gpu-next and so on.
for anime watching i do pot player but as a barebones simple and pretty much all you need media viewer, mpv is pretty much top tier
>for anime watching i do pot player
is there any particular advantage?

we used to use that shit on school computers way back and it would artifact to hell
mpv + user plugins + user shaders
Literally all u will ever need for content consoomption
>mpv + user plugins + user shaders
What plugins and shaders do you use?
>plugins
sponsorblock
sub-select
playlist manager
mpv webm
>shaders
I don't have good enough eyesight to care about that
moron here, trying to use mpv on Windows but it's crashing any time I drag a youtube URL onto it.
I can't find the location of youtube-dl either
I download the .7z archive, extracted and then ran installer.bat
What am I doing wrong?
Use yt-dlp for starters and try placing it in the same directory as mpv itself
Thanks, do I need to rename it to youtube-dl?

You can do that, but up to date mpv should look for yt-dlp as well as youtube-dl.
Thanks
I added those files in the directory and now it works as intended

can you use this on windows?
if so, is it better than mpc-be?

mpv + yt-dlp, since a few months ago it started not playing certain videos when mpv <yt url>
tried --no-config too
when it works it shows multi/mkv, when I get multi/edl it's just a blackscreen
nothing different in the logs
any idea why?
yt-dlp mpv pipe was life saver for my 2c2t laptop since it stutters to play videos and turns my fan into nuclear reactor
