Jack of All Trades, Master of none?

I am posting this here and not on advice board, because this is about human condition and I want a philosopher/sociologist/psychologist perspective? I am mediocre and have well-paying job, but I want to the best at just one particular thing. Anything, math, chess, sport, etc. This isn't about desires, as I am willing to sacrifice everything and I don't desire money, women or fame, just mastery. Even someone like Musk who is a smart billionaire gets insecure and wants to constantly prove he's the best. Is wanting to be at the very top of the heirarchy normal for human psyche?

To answer OPs question, to admit that its intrinsic in all humans is a gross overstatement because some people revel in the though of being perceived as "pond scum" look at gg allin, seth putnam and the entire punk rock scene.

Bugman tier take, like everything he says. That said, chess teaches a LOT of things that can be useful

I don't think that's exactly what he meant. He probably meant that games that involve real life to virtual immersion are better than pure escapism. I dont 100% agree but it's a matter of opinion not fact.

        1. You're trying to get us to react to Twitter post
        2. You want people to summarise existing ideas for you.

          Anonymous

Wrong on both counts. I want to know if such an idea actually exists and can be explored. Musk is easiest example I found.

One could argue that Musk's desire to at the the top and his pathetic insecurity are the reasons for his success. So maybe, it is a good thing.

i dislike this guy. he just spouts out these opinions of his and because he was able to make enough money to be the richest man on earth he can do so with confidence and people take them seriously, even though he has no expertise in these matters and most of his opinions are trash, contrarian in nature, something a 14 year old would post in the hopes of baiting a response.
i really wish he would've fought Zuckerberg who would've kicked his dysmorphic troglodyte body

You want to be the best? Or do you want to be very good? Being the best is largely a combination of genetics and starting young. You’re not gonna become a grandmaster for example. Maybe an IM if you quit everything and focus on it a lot. You’re not going to be the best at anything worthwhile. Abandon this mindset, it’s destructive and will make you unhappy.

Strive for mastery but don’t think about any end goal. Enjoy the process. I strive for mastery in boxing. I know I’ll never be a champion. But I’m having fun and I can beat the frick out of 99% of the people I see. This is enough.

    Pick something you enjoy.

But how do you cope when you are beaten by someone stronger knowing that you can never beat him?

      >I want to the best at just one particular thing. Anything, math, chess, sport, etc.
You will never achieve mastery unless you enjoy the thing you're doing or have a strong compulsion to achieve mastery. You're just bored and insecure.
      >Even someone like Musk who is a smart billionaire gets insecure and wants to constantly prove he's the best.
Musk is an insecure manchild and doesn't do anything to "prove he's the best" at anything. He smokes weed and plays videogames like all manchildren do and tries to rationalize how he's actually superior for being too dumb or lazy to play chess well. It can't be "chess doesn't interest me and this might say something about my intelligence or patience," it has to be "i am far too intelligent for chess so i play videogames instead."
      >Is wanting to be at the very top of the heirarchy normal for human psyche?
what do you mean by normal? i dont think a normal human in their normal (natural) habitat has thoughts of being the best in the world when they aren't even aware of the rest of the world.

      >I strive for mastery in boxing. I know I’ll never be a champion. But I’m having fun and I can beat the frick out of 99% of the people I see. This is enough.
It's not hard to be a big fish in a small pond, or to be better in a sport that others aren't competing in. 99% of people don't practice boxing, or any martial art/combat sport at all. You're competing against people who don't care. Yeah, I have the world record for the amount of times somebody named Brayden has snapped their fingers in the span of 27 seconds. It's a sport you can't even compete in, so be jealous loser.

What did Kasparov say that pissed him off? Is he mad that he called out Putin

Kasparov implied Elon's peace plan was ignorant. Elon peace plan was basically give up Crimea to Russia, and have repeat referendums in other occupied territories.

Crimea is Russian, so yea, it’s a good peace plan.
