Daily reminder that Japan and Asia in general suck, and I really mean, Fricking SUCK at storytelling.
All anime are bad, period, and Japanese serious literature is just western genre fiction garbage.
Not a single japanese or asian writer comes close to being a serious contender to the western canon.
>but makoto shinkai, mishima, miyazaki, kojima
All which are giant westernboos as frick and learned everything from western writers in american and european classic films or likely disney animations from the bambi era?
The best japanese storytellers are just students of western techniques.
Why?
Because japan didn't had a proper literary scene before the 19 century?
Why?
Because It's impossible to make a proper printing machine for their shitty writing system using pre industrial technology.
Not possible at a rate to sustain a book industry.
The west had 600 years of time to develop a novel industry and learn by experimentation to develop the literary techniques, japanese never had the time to develop.
Anything else is cope.
>but they had literature before the europeans gave them printing modern tech
What?
Genji monogatari?
Which is about some teen prostitute in the emperors palace or some shit, writing how she feels about watching the sakura flowers on the palace while having sex with Chad?
Which fricking reads like whatppad garbage but about 12 century bawds?
Japan is a fricking joke in narrative.

you're country has never produced a writer as good or as important as mishima
What if he is from Britain, Russia or France?
>Russia
stop joking, ruskie. you're a joke and so is your nation
Replace France with Germany and you'd be asking the right question.
good because 36 countries speak mexican and easily at least 5-6 Hispanic writers like cervantes, gabo, borges, ruben dario, lorca.
easily easily, and I don't need like start cherrypicking hispanic writers, destroy anything asia has.
>Hispanic writers like cervantes
stopped reading here
This.
He's israeli actually.
>you’re
Just the average Mishima fan
you already admitted to being mexican so I don't know why you think I care about what you have to say
Not even that non lmao, good job for advertising against Mishima tho
>non
OOOOPS
>muh country
I like Mishima too, but let's be honest. He is not that great or particularly important, not even in his home country.
what about kurosawa ozu and mizoguchi
why the blank lines?
why is japanese literature so hilariously bad?
the most recognizable literary technique of nipponland is 3 lines consisting of 17 syllables
their "art" is mostly confined to one period or era.
kanji is just an inferior version of the Chinese Script.
katakana and hiragana are both redundant and not from japan (Western China originally)
why did the nips refuse to make a satisfactory piece of literature?
Haiku is the logical end of poetry to me. It deals with the pure object, aiming to reduce subjectivity as much as possible. This was why Moderns like the Imagists were taken with it. Western poetry since its inception has been so infused with subjectivity, the rapturousness of love and the interiority of Shakespearean monologues, so when you read Western attempts at Haiku most of them fail because they are simply unable to understand that purity, contaminated as they are by overwhelming consciousness. It is too simple, just 3 lines, but in those three lines can you erase as much of yourself as possible and focus on the object alone? Those who look merely at poetry for content, length, complexity, fail to understand this. The best haikuists are those that have managed to distill things down to their purest forms. Western poem, at its best, has been able to play strongly on the subject, but never touches upon the object.
Just look at this example from Jack Kerouac
The little worm
lowers itself from the roof
By a self shat thread
He cannot resist the urge to inject himself. Merely focusing on the formal novelty.
That might be the first haiku I’ve ever liked.
Makes sense. Captures the mindset of most posters here perfectly.
faustian subjectivity is superior
There is no faustian subjectivity silly Spenglerian. When you realize this you will actually see.
It is quite interesting. I cannot think of a single Western poem that manages to eliminate subjectivity to the same extent as the best Japanese Haikuists. The Imagists tried, how they tried, but no one came close. Pound's Metro poem is too precious, his own mark too clearly left on it. Rilke is probably closer in intent but circles around the pure object with a series of beautiful but ultimately distracting tricks, and then returned back to subjectivity with his Elegies. I challenge anyone here to provide an example of a poem that achieves it. Only then will you realize how singular the achievements of Haiku are.
>eliminate subjectivity
why would you want to do that in art unless you're a bugman like the asiatics are
Modern subjectivity is the real bugmen subjectivity. You live amidst the inferno, your attention scattered into a million moving parts.
True
>eliminate subjectivity
thats a very misleading way of putting what they are or their effect
>I challenge anyone here to provide an example of a poem that achieves it
seymour glass' dou8le haikus
Seymour Glass is a pedo so by 'double haiku' he actually means 'e-girl erotica stash'.
like the fight between male and female, the fight between east and west is endless, because both are infinite
You think their writing is bad, you should see their acting.
Apologize
>teen prostitute in the emperors palace
Are you mixing Genji Monogatari with The Pillow Book?
Also Heike Monogatari is really where Japanese lit is at. It has warfare and samurai and tyranny and politicking and buddhist decay. IMO way more interesting than Greek epics.
>Heike Monogatari
why do asiatic morons have to insert redundancy everywhere?
"The X Emperor"
"Y monogatari"
why not just "The X" "Y" like we do in the Western world? why the redundancy?
asiatics are moronic
I don't think you know what redundancy means.
Also "A Tale Of Two Cities", "The Winter's Tale", "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde", "The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus", "Moby Dick or The Whale"
>Because It's impossible to make a proper printing machine for their writing system
This has literally nothing to do with storytelling
>All anime are bad, period
...and printing machine has nothing to do with anime either
Weak bait 1/10
True
>all anime is bad
I will agree that the vast majority of anime these days is utter garbage, but there are some real masterpieces out there. Garden of Sinners is one, Mob Psycho is another, and Serial Experiments Lain was an absolute achievement in story-telling.
There's so much generic trash though that you have to know how to find the good ones.
anime is the funko pop of culture
>Serial Experiments Lain was an absolute achievement in story-telling.
and then the superior West came out 2 years later with the Matrix and told everything Lain tells in half the time and infinitely more action
You mean the film that is actually an allegory for transition? Glad that you are supporting the good fight sister!
As much as I'm an Eurocentric, Lain is superior to Matrix in everyway. Matrix is just a blockbuster for midwits to feel smart. With that said, Lain derived from a lot of western philosophy and thought so it's not purely a Japanese achievement.
texhnolyze > lain
don't @ me
>Garden of Sinners is one
Nasu? Grow up.
>Mob Psycho is another
Forgettable.
>and Serial Experiments Lain was an absolute achievement in story-telling.
troony moment. Let me guess, you "suffer from social anxiety" too?
all of this is true, how can anyone argue? their tradition is just objectively weak. there's novels i enjoy from mishima and akutagawa's short stories but i know deep down inside it doesn't come close to anything from tolstoy, dosto, melville, etc.
they're also insane coomers on par with the french.
all anime is inherently bad and has YA novel depth regarding characters, dialogue and plots and video game tier aesthetics.
japan has the same problem russia has. no proper own culture. i apologize to japan for making this analogy of course, japan is after all composed of way more intelligent, wiser and simply spiritually better animals than russia is
>japan is after all composed of way more intelligent, wiser and simply spiritually better animals than russia is
and so their own culture, even though lacking, still is better than russia's, which is no culture at all, just pure Chaos. a gaping abyss of Evil. same as the Mongols.
Eurasia is cursed by Satan
Bad bait.
>Tale of Genji bad
lol
Yeah it's trash.
>

You should refrain from blanket statements like that if you don't want to appear dumb
>You- *caves your skull in with a single strike*
Only manga I'm proud to like is Golden Kamuy
They can't write good stories and when they do the ending is shit
Koji Suzuki is great.
