Livecd an Ubuntu. Fastboot on windows fricking sucks.
thisiss turning into quiet a pain in the ass
install gentoo
I rebooted into linux and set my phone into download mode by pressing down, home, power buttons and it still doesn't work
use sudo
Just use emulated firmware always
Maybe install XiaomiTool V2 (on Windows) to get all the drivers
besides the point that you might need to run it as root (due to udev rules being set-up incorrectly) also ensure that you use a proper cable (idealy the vendor provided one), as a lot of usb-c cables don't have all lines connected. Some are just ment to change your phone, so just the power lines are connected, some others just have vendor specific lines (that the device the cable shipped with needed) connected.
Yes!
I did it!
I installed postmarket os fdkeyboard on my old Samsung a5
What should I do now?
Install pi hole? turn into a lamp server? Email server?
but why?
Not OP, but why not?
its old and most likely just gonna collect dust after today cause OP is gonna realize that its not worth having anything besides android on it.
then again that might be just me, I never know what to do with old devices once I install linux on them. Like right now I have an HP elitebook 8440p that I keep installing linux on and then switch back to windows 7 cause i'm so use to windows. I wish I knew how to use linux as a daily driver but i'm a complete noob when it comes to any linux distro.
Even when you become pro you'll still not be able to use linux as daily.
you guys ought to start shiling zorin os more. its better than mint.
i had zorin OS once, same thing just didn't hold my interest.
So all the threads of people showing neofetch is just someone doing what I did and installing linux for a day?
I used linux for a couple of years until I distro hopped to arch linux and got a nasty virus.
Then I had to buy pirated windows from a corner store to fix it.
I'd switch back but I need microsoft office to translate documents. Onlyoffice can use google translate but it doesn't do the formatting etc...
>just someone doing what I did and installing linux for a day
Just look at uptimes on all those neofetch screenshots.
makes me sad, specially after all the "2022 is the year of linux"
That just means how long your computer has been on since you last turned it off.
If you want to call someone out tell them to give you the date of their kernel or something.
it means people are actually not using it but booting up for the screenshot.
Seriously, I use ubuntu on chink sbc board which runs lots of my hobby services. Any time I do any significant change to it I do full microsd card backup and if you don't and just install shit and fix stuff on the go your installation will become gigantic broken unrepairable mess in few short months. It's not like windows which you can run for years despite raping it and doing stupid stuff all the time. One wrong step with dependencies on linux and you're ready for reinstall from zero.
yea that sounds like a nightmare
What keyboard is that, I'm still using this retro thing from 10 years ago
It's postmarketOS, a Linux distro for smartphones
Does that support calling and wifi? Did you port it yourself or is it image from website?
I followed this tutorial
It cost me like $30 not $10 though
I might make a bash script out that
>install TWRP
>make backup to uSD
>remove google botnet
>remove bloatware
>install AFWall or Netguard as ssytem apps
>install F-Droid, Aurora
>?????
Profit
pic is you
Use Linux. Else, you may want to try finding the actual site for mi flash tool among all the fake ones, which contains the necessary drivers. good luck anon.
shit since I picked fbkeyboard I'm going to have to use wpa_supplicant with vim on this tiny keyboard. Lol. Maybe I should reflash it...
No yeah I had to reflash it.
Chose posh this time.
wlan0 said no carrier and I don't have the patience for it
I made a script for installing postmarketos btw
I haven't tested it though
You'll still need to fill out the options for pmbootstrap
I tried posting on the guy's video but it got deleted
https://pastebin.com/byPcpvq7
Its meant for wsl
Oh also its meant for samsung a5 only
I actually make pihole run on this piece of junk lmao.
Can I install lamp server aside from pihole on the cellphone?
you could run something like termux or a whole chrooted linux OS on it. you need root to run http servers on it, though, depending on the port.
I've done stupid shit like that. AMA
Wdym termux?
Its already rooted. It has postmarket os installed. Aka alpine linux. I can install anything that linux has on the phone as long as it doesn't take up a lot of resources...
>Wdym termux?
www.google.com
No I mean why would I need to install termux, a linux emulator, when I installed actual linux on it.
I never heard about postmarket os, but, if you already installed linux on it, why the frick are you asking moronic questions? was it rethoric or just you being a moron?
IMO, installing linux on this thing is just dumb. you could use android and have all the advantages of it + linux chroots for everything else... but, whatever floats your boat.
I don't think termux has docker and I used docker to install pi hole.
I bet you can do that on chrooted linux, though I'm not sure. docker needs newer kernels AFAIU. in any case, what's so special about pi hole? I guess it's dns server (dnsmasq) + some web frontend. does it *need* docker?
i think it dies cause i donf think you can even set up a kamp server on termux. Anyways now i need to figure out how to set up pihole cause its not blocking anything...
I said chroot, not termux. it is not a chroot...
usb 2.0 you moron
Okay done setting up the dns for pihole on my router.
Its not blocking the youtube ads though but whatever. Just wanted to let you guys know there's an alternative than spending $140 for a Raspberry Pi so you can block ads on your network.
