Reading in bed mostly, my room is too dark to read a book and turning on a lamp keeps me awake. I wanted an ereader so I didnt have to read on my phone, particularly wanted the e-ink.
Having light blasted directly into your pupils from any kind of electronic device will do more for "keeping you awake" than a real, normal incandescent bulb.
Also the reading it bed.
Just close your eyes and sleep, moron.
If your brains worms are keeping you awake then work out during the day so you're tired enough to sleep.
I've never had an ereader before, so I figured get the color one

Didn't you wonder why color panels are still a niche and not universally adopted?

My best friend has a boox nova color and I like the color eink. The libra color uses the kaleido 3 which is an upgrade from the plus in that one. Since this will be the only ereader i purchase, I like that it's repairable also.
2 weeks of reading until the honeymoon period of having a new thing runs out and you put it in a drawer never to be touched again
kek, I bought my Sage on release (that was 2 and a half years ago) and still use it daily
Use this piece of shit compared to an average, cheap tablet.
tablets don't have e-ink screens
How's a dedicated ereader compared to something like an iPad Mini or a cheap chinese android tablet?
I've been reading a concerning amount of shitty genre fiction on my phone lately and been thinking of upgrading to a bigger, but not like a full 10" tablet, device
e-ink screens are incredibly comfy. it's not really something you can really know until you experience it. like sure, LCD/OLED screens work just fine for pretty much everything, but e-ink is great for reading. e-readers have insane battery life (this is good even if you're used to charging your phone/tablet every day. less charging cycles means your battery will last for years and years and those devices can live for very long), don't need a backlight if you're not reading in the dark, they use (at least for kobos and kindles) dedicated, distraction-free software, etc
also even if you read in the dark, those devices use a frontlight instead of a backlight, which make them easier on the eyes anyway (and you only need really low amounts of it no matter what)
There's nothing inherent to the color that makes the battery life worse, it's just a passive film on top of the panel.
The recent Boox color readers had worse battery life because they used special anti-ghosting tech but you got the same on the b&w Tab Ultra, Tab X and Boox Palma.
>tablets don't have e-ink screens
That depends on how you define tablet.
Something like the Note Air 3C is hard to distinguish from LCD/OLED Tablets in terms of capabilities.
yeah I guess you're right, the fancy Android ones are tablets
not really the kind of models zoomies would buy to scroll on tiktok tho, which is kinda what I meant initially
Are these good for manga or should I just get a tablet?
look into something like the Sage instead if you don't care about color
else the Boox Note Air 3C is great, but no page turn buttons sadly
>You might be able to use a smaller size if you are only reading manga
10" is really the lower limit for manga. And you'll occasionally have to use it in portrait mode with single pages due to how small it is.
>10" is really the lower limit for manga
if you care about double pages, yes. 8" is great for single pages though

It seems a bit small for things like 4koma that are printed in A5 format.

>Buy a kindle. >can't jailbreak recent firmware versions (no Koreader for you) >can't read cbz >most recent 7" model (same size as OP's model) released 7 years ago and costs more than OP's color Kobo but with 4 times less storage >no 8" model like the Sage >verification not required
you cannot wipe your ass on it after you read a ebook, but believe me, after you read a real book like the The Color Purple or Das Kapital. You got shit paper to use for quite a while
I have the same one and it's still going strong 3 years later. Reading manga almost every evening on it, probably one of there best purchases in my life. Just never connect it to the internet and sideload everything.
>actual physical buttons and a grip to hold it by
fricking finally. The kindle is an ergonomics nightmare since there's no way you can hold it comfortably and reach the touch screen to swap pages.
The Libra had that design since 2019.
The Kindle Oasis came out in 2016.
Other manufacturers have also released similar designs like the Pocketbook Era or the Boox Page
I've been using this e-reader for 14 years, I replaced the battery a few years ago and it should last me another decade before I change it again
I miss these older designs because the keyboard area is great to hold while reading and it's nice to easily type without using a shitting e-ink touchscreen
Electronics need to make batteries easily replaceable, this one isn't even that easy to replace, but it's still better than modern tech because at least it just uses latches instead of glue
I have a boox note air 3 b/w and I purchased it for reading pirated pdfs of books but found it works well for manga.
You might be able to use a smaller size if you are only reading manga but i have found 10.3 inches is ideal.

It's how you read it in print as well. If you check online readers the majority will show double pages on a computer monitor and apps will also switch to double pages when there's enough horizontal space.
Fitting the pages together is the job of the reader software.
Manga is distributed in epubs that tell the software how the pages are aligned so you always have the correct alignment even when you jump to a different spot. With other formats you have to make an educated guess, e.g. the first page in a chapter goes on the left. You can tell if it's correct when there's a white gap in the middle of most double pages.
A normal kobo e-reader but with a kaleido 3 panel. They're nice panels, you'll like it. It's the first color panel that is actually worth paying extra for over a monochrome panel
e-waste
Why would you order something like that without real reviews?
What do you even plan to use it for?

Turn on you fricking lights! and if you want to go to bed turn off you fricking electronics you tard
Modern lights are electronics.
Looks comfy, how much does it weigh? wouldn't want to hurt my wrist while laying
a very comfy reading experience
>how much does it weigh?
199 grams

Idk about the color but I use mine pretty often. I wish I had gotten a used one though.

Kobo has terrible QC. Expect that this cheap shit will be dead in a month.
Buy a kindle.
I actually was torn between this and a kindle but picked this for the color e-ink.

Ok buddy
Not him but what the frick you're talking about? I have a 5 year old kindle and it can handle PDFs
it's real chip. so what if it breaks? buy another and still cheaper than buying a Kindle and giving your support to the twats at Amazon
Black folk in colour
>color e-ink
Fricking moron

how much was it? what are the specs? Last time I checked color epaper was >300€ .
$212, 7" kaleido 3 color eink, 32g storage, and 1g of ram.
thats kinda cheap
> 300€ in Germany
still cucking us...
It's €230.
There's also the Tolino Vision Color for €200 with the same externals.
>i bought something i don't need
>what do i do with it?
on the off chance it works you should tie a noose with it and take it for a spin.

get a tablet, the contrast is shit on eink
Libra Colour is only 7", way to small for manga.

>What am i in for?
low resolution, poor contrast, washed-out colors
The resolution is 300ppi for black content.
And 150ppi for colored.
Not exactly. Each color pixel is composed out of 3 subpixels, not 4 so it's more like 170ppi (300/sqrt(3)).
I'll go with what they say on their own specs.
A normal kobo e-reader but with a kaleido 3 panel. They're nice panels, you'll like it. It's the first color panel that is actually worth paying extra for over a monochrome panel
Since they're doing the whole right to repair with iFixit, I wonder if I can get a replacement display and put it on my old libra 2.
The ribbon cable is usually different if there's more data being pushed
How unfortunate. Has there been any progress on running android on a libra 2?
>Has there been any progress on running android on a libra 2?
It's called Tolino Vision 6
