I am using a 4070 from xorg has we speak. Nvidia just has a lot of trouble with linux support.
My PC is modern and my 16c/32t CPU and 4090 would be wasted on Linux.

It's probably already wasted. I can't imagine what the frick you're doing with something with so much power. I have big buyers remorse for my 4070 because i legitimately don't know what to use it for.
And if you're talking about cuda, that works perfectly well on linux.
