I only ask you to own it and fess up if you get caught. Don’t take the Elizabeth Warren/Rachel Dolezal route. If you get caught, say “I did this because they wouldn’t publish White men, so I pretended to be a gay black cripple so they’d accept my writing”

I mean, my stories aren’t about gays or blacks or the experience of being one anyway. Maybe some feature characters who happen to be in a wheelchair or gay, or non white. But none of this has anything to Dow it’s their stories beyond basic characteristics.

So I do wonder what level of outrage you could have.

If I was writing a story about the suffering of being a closeted gay black man and added i am a gay black man IRL so this is more than just fiction. I can see why some people would be upset.

But if they’re upset I misled them just because they don’t want white men writing for them regardless of quality then that’s on them.

Imagine future literary historians looking back at our current age and speculating on who was closet cis in the same way that literary historians today look back at 18th/19th century writers and speculate on who were closeted gays.

What's really funny is that this all started going to hell for them two years ago when Russia invaded Ukraine. Then last year when Hamas killed all those people in Israel and Israel started going apeshit in Gaza. Now all of a sudden the people in charge face the prospect of needing white men back in society so they can fight the wars that are clearly coming up, but white men no longer want to participate and thus far have not been persuaded back.

Imagine if the entire American Empire just falls apart because of "diversity." I guess it wouldn't be the dumbest way an empire has historically gone out.

This was right after the coof, 3 years ago, so I don't have the image. Most of the email made it very obvious the specific company she works for, so almost half of the email would need to be redacted. It's trivially easy to fake email screenshots anyway.

Right now her team has two white males, one is bisexual and one is transgender, both hired before the coof. All of the white males hired after Q2 of 2022 were temps and none of their contracts were renewed, so all of her team and the teams involved in the company are something like 40% white females, 10% other females, 25% poos, 25% asian men.

In lit fiction (in the US at least) they may throw up a line like OP pic but they generally don't ask you about your race or anything. Most journals in lit fiction just ask name, email, how you want the piece credited if it gets published and sometimes have a spot to write 25 or 50 words about yourself/your writing. Most people don't talk about gender and race in those blurbs from what I have seen. Only journals I can think of which ask about such things explicitly are journals which serve that demographic.

Can't you just claim to identify as non-binary? There's not really any clear criteria for what it would mean for that to be falsified. Or just say you're bisexual and there just haven't yet happened to be any men who both struck your fancy and that you were in a position to date.

You're still white/cis/male, which has a quota because it doesn't sell well and hasn't for 30 years now. Not even israelites get published the way they used to. The best you can do is identify with some marginal group like hillbillies or trailer trash if you engage in the game at all.

This is what you tell yourself. The harsher truth is that Asian american women are writing better than white men right now. They are picking the best, they are discriminating on quality - and it's on white men to get better

You're wrong and not wrong. White men aren't writing anything different on the whole right now, it's all pretty shitty across the board, but few of the chingchongs are outside their own diaspora culture enough to have anything profound to say about it. It's a trend and the literature is far below the bestseller list.

The chingchongs are at least attempting to write about their contemporary reality and produce something new. They don't sit there obsessing over 150 year old memes like Dostoevsky or feel sorry for themselves because le canon is over and literature is dead. Whatever they are up to is better than the lazy defeatism on offer here

This is a fair point. Frankly, when you think about it, how many of these literary magazines that hype up "diversity" actually sell much? How many people ACTUALLY read these stories? What's their circulation?

The entire current literary system in North America, from the major publishing houses to the major literary magazines to the small presses to the small magazines, all seems like it's running on fumes. What about those stats from a few months ago that said most of the books the major publishers published sold less than 1000 copies?

They can tout "diversity" all they want, the fact of the matter is, people aren't buying. People want something GOOD, and the legacy system basically doesn't produce that any more. So any Anons on IQfy who think they have something good on their hands should start looking for alternatives. Something outside the system, to get their writing in front of readers. Because the system doesn't know how to generate good literature any more and frankly may not even want to.

I wonder what alternative is possible. There are probably smart, creative people out there. Maybe not a Dostoevsky, but at least someone decent enough.

    >It's impossible to get published as a white male author!!!!
No it isn't. There may be a higher standard for white male writers to get published, but that shouldn't matter to you if your goal is actually to write something good instead of just getting published for the sake of it.

      Also, what this anon said:

There is no real barrier to getting published if you are a good writer. IQfy is filled with bad writers who believe they are good and blame their publication failure on "Woke" editors. The real mistake is not that Woke editors reject bad white male writers. It's that they accept bad "diverse" writers. The argument should be for more rejections across the board, not more acceptances.

I personally know two published authors and they’re both young straight white men writing genre fic (and, as much as I enjoy their friendship, their books are bad, though I’d never tell them that). I suspect the whole “only non-straight white men can get published” narrative is exaggerated. The REAL barrier to getting published is that genre fic targeted at young people is the only somewhat lucrative field right now, so you’d better get to writing self inserts going on trope-filled adventures written with a heaping of twitter-isms if you want to get books off the shelves. The whole publishing industry is going my through a slow, painful disintegrating upheaval right now.

    >Spam journals
That is about the worst thing you can do. Editors have a huge number of submissions to work through and if they recognize your name as that terrible writer who for the past year has made the maximum number of submissions every month and shown no growth or change they are going to start skipping over your submissions. If you are going to get a reputation with a journal's editor you want to make certain that reputation is one that you want.

This is not so much of an issue with the larger journals since submissions don't go right to the editors and their submission guidelines/windows limit you to a few submissions a year but it is a real concern with the smaller journals.

Also, only send a piece to one journal at a time, no good can come of sending the same piece to a dozen journals at once. Telling them sorry, it got published somewhere else is a sure way to get them to pass on future works by you.

An individual writer can't be 'diverse'. Diverse in this context means 'from several different backgrounds', and you personally cannot be from several different backgrounds. They didn't commit that solipsism in their screenshot - this one's on you.
