You're an idiot. Ram requirements are dictated by the software you're running not the architecture.

100 chrome tabs takes the same amount of ram on x86 as it does on ARM.

That's what I mean. "External" storage on a device which you don't plan to move around is a good solution. There are plenty of discreet USB hubs which add extra storage options without getting in the way.
It's still a shitty situation but at least it's easy to rectify.

Another operating system wouldn't be much better on the same hardware.
Linux is a broken mess, doubly so on a laptop and triply so on an ARM Mac.
Biggest advantage of Windows is 30 years of native software compatibility which you lose on an ARM machine.
There just isn't a good option for ARM personal computing.

I thought old macbooks were useless thermally throttling underpowered garbage
or are you saying they still keep their value despite being ewaste? hmm.

A macbook is a Personal Computer AKA a PC you dumb frick

There is nothing personal on macs when Apple doesn't let you change parts/repair it yourself, doesn't let you run the software you like, doesn't let you use non Apple approved accessories, etc...
You bought a product and they still own it, they can even remotely brick it for any reason if they'd like to.

Do you have a real life example of Apple purposely bricking someone’s Mac?

If you can't replace the battery in an electronic device, you aren't buying it. You're renting it until the battery dies

i agree with the principle but in practice thinkpads, even old ones suck when it comes to replacing the battery too. the OEM only makes original batteries for a few years, after that you need to repy on awful third party replacements.

I bought my gf one, its pretty great for basic office use. Would almost prefer it over my T490 if the key travel on the mac wasnt so shallow.

Unironically what do people need more than 256GB on a laptop for? I store my media on my desktop PC, I don't think I use even 128GB on my laptop.

8 GB of ram is a lot of ram and what do you need terrabytes of storage for? Your satanya collection isn't bigger then 500 MB. 600 dollars to not be stuck with windows and loonix isnt that high asking price.

Now show me the price of a 1tb, 16gb ram one, surely it's only like $150-$200 higher right? Apple wouldn't more than double prices for this trivial upgrade right?

        Anonymous

Because it's 2024 so storage and RAM are cheap.
Although I have to admit I only upgraded to 512GB because I got a cash back so it costed the same as the 256GB base model.

I'm guessing you are stupid. For the last 50 years increased specs can do more things. I want increased specs to do more things. If I got a shittier phone with worse specs I could not do more things, but fewer things.
I know what those things are. I have no incentive to tell you, apple gayboy, what those are. But trust me, those things exist and they require more specs. Again, what I'm saying is not a new concept. You are dumb for not seeing the 50 year advancement and its practical use cases.
