If you really think about the fact that, in order for democracy to actually work, you first need to submit completely to the idea of democracy, and also the fact that apart from a select few examples where the citizens are given the right to vote, when people aren't having their voices heard through voting, then it's actually a type of authoritarian regime that most people think is the very foundation to what they like referring to as ''freedom'', when in fact, it's a power structure like any other. The biggest mistake people who live in a democracy make, is the amount of influence they think they have apart from voting, and this, is a detriment to society as a whole, since we end up with a bunch of morons who are entitled to shit and think that they should be heard constantly, instead of only just when they are being asked something by the state.
You aren't smart, Democracy is literally the ANTITHESIS of tyranny, and you cannot have tyranny in a state of pure democracy, wherein the people have absolute authority over their elected officials.

But it ends at that, everything that comes with the allure of democracy, is in fact a detriment to everyone that exists within a democracy. It went from affecting political decisions, into identity politics, of which the state should have absolutely no influence over. The idea of power to the people has went overboard and we are currently feeling the downsides of a system made to operate in a way where public opinion is actually relevant, especially when it comes to individuals that contribute almost none towards this democracy, are being given high priorities and by consequence, ruining the entire democratic ideology that once flourished among people deeply involved within the matters of politics, since it affected them on a large scale.

Even if we assume the people (which people?) actually have real authority in any democracy, very questionable, you could still have tyranny even in this ideal:

Liberalism tries to solve these problems by relegating these cultural or religious differences and conflicts to the private sphere, and otherwise ensuring the rights of all kinds of "minorities" against majorities.
But then what yiu effectively do is elevate a non-democratic principle within democracy--that there are at times other principles more sacred than the will of the people.
Moreover in every democracy we see an ever expanding bureaucracy full of unelected technocrats insulated from democratic pressures.
When we examine these realities anyone rational must conclude thst the ideal of a pure democracy is as utopian as Marx's utopia.
Pure democracy is best accomplished at a very small level, e.g Athens, in which case such pure democracy is accomplished on the basis of a rejection of liberal egalitarian and universalist ideals--a sharply circumscribed small group wields power within a society, to the exclusion of others, but within that small unit they do so relatively equitabely and democratically.
