Michelle Obama's Becoming has sold more copies

than Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea. Very depressing information.

Romance is also the best-selling fiction genre by a substantial margin. Thanks for that. It's helpful to a reminder when I see threads of people debating weird, alienating ideologies and American politics that there's just millions of Michelle Obama fans who will just wipe everybody out. Resistance is futile.

Ever read her book? Or are you just angry that someone who isn't a dead white man can publish a book that touches other people and outperform other dead white men in book sales? Equality feels like oppression when you're used to privilege. Do better.

That reminds me, right-wingers got mad at Michelle Obama for changing school lunch menus so kids wouldn't be so fat. Now they're all calling themselves Raw Egg Nationalist. There was a window when compulsory mass exercise like a 20th century totalitarian regime was possible in America -- and prompted by liberals. Now the fatties are in charge.

Population has grown a good deal in the past 70 years, you would have to adjust as you would for inflation for those numbers to mean anything. Old Man and the Sea being a short work is anthologized in collections which are not counted in such stats and also has a large amount of uncounted used sales, good chunk of those 13 million copies have been resold multiple times. And then we have all the sales which are not counted in those statistics which increases the further back in time you go since the large nationwide sellers did not exist and these lists are primarily created through sales stats of large sellers.

Sales stats are not actually accurate especially over time, all they really show is short term trends.

    Stop being a moron.

They count if you want the stats to be representative of reading and not just short term consumer trends.

OK, ignore them and just adjust for population growth and increased data collecting, add in anthologized copies, now Michele won't even be close to Old Man and the Sea in sales. In the 50s the majority of book sales were not even counted, now the bulk of sales go through a handful of companies which all report their sales. This comparison is meaningless.

Never said that you were seething. More like you were being pushy and insistent. Interesting that you saw it like that. Btw population is a meme metric, that's more fitting for movies since they're basically a one-off thing for the most part. A better metric for books is time (number of books sold since publication).

But if you add up the IQ of the Obama readers,, it's 1/10 the IQ of the Hemingway readers. So...

Most of those Obama sales are bogus money laundering anyway.

Depressing why? My apathy for both Michelle Obama and the suicidal geezer aside, why should I care about the sales of a book if that money isn't going into my pocket?

You homies know these aren't organic sales figures right? Individuals and entities seeking access to her husband buy thousands of copies just to trash them. It's basically legalized bribing. I guarantee you, not even the most dem wine aunt oprah fan is reading Bike Mike's memoirs.

Politicians "selling" books is just a way to launder money and bribe them in a circuitous way. Giant companies buy thousands of copies of the novel and give them away for free (if they even bought actual copies in the first place), PACs buy copies to hand out at rallies, and media celebrities put them on their reading lists to pretend that their fans are buying it (think Oprah's book club). All in all, hardly anyone actually reads the books. Barack was the king of this. We were told that him becoming a millionaire while in the White House was because he was a """bestselling writer""" (as if it's at all realistic anymore for a writer to make enough money to buy a Martha's Vineyard beachfront property.)

A long time ago, I never knew myself
Then the memory of shame birthed its gift
No more the small one, the weak one, the frightened one
    Running from beatings, deflating
I'm becoming more than a man
    More than you ever were
    Driven and burning
    To rise beyond Jesus
    I'm born again
    With snake's eyes
    Becoming
    God size
I found my life was slipping through my hands
Perhaps through death my life won't be so bad
    I can see you
Can frick you, inside of you
    Staring through your eyes
Belittle your friends to serve me
    To suck me
    To realize my saving grip
    I, of suicide
    I, the Unlord
    I'm born again
    With snake's eyes
    Becoming
    God size

E.L James has probably outsold every writer in the English Language, why does this bother you so much? If you was a IQfygay would you b***h and moan about Marvel slop grossing in more dollars than a film you enjoyed?
The average person isn't interested in books. They use books as social statements, conversation starters, but they don't actually sit down and apprecaite the art of literature. You must be moronic if you genuinely think the publishing industry is representive of world literature throughout the ages.
