Ubuntu was the only usable distribution, until they forced snaps on you.
Fedora
>small repository
>have to give root access to a third party repository for your vulkan libraries and codecs
openSUSE
>same as Fedora
Arch Linux
>breaks quite often
>no support
>shit community
>small repository outside of the AUR
>takes time to install and configure
Debian
>unusable outdated software (Debian sid is broken right now)
>sid and testing get frozen from time to time when they're working on the new version
I miss when Ubuntu was actually good. Now you need to rely on shitty Flatpaks or Snaps. Not sure which is worse lol.
>just use Windows
Windows is also pretty shit.
Modern operating systems are unusable.
Unironically install Void
https://voidlinux.org/
It's even worse as far as I recall, very few packages, anything closed source will probably have issues running on it.
So what do you use?
>It's even worse as far as I recall
It just werkz, I've been using it for years. Yeah, may take a little bit to set things up but once you got it configured it's rock solid, and maintenance is a breeze. Seriously, don't knock it till you try it.
theres a non-free repo which has some proprietary packages like steam and drivers, and i think you can build .deb packages with xbps-src somehow but idk if im making that up
i use nixos for the past 7 years. after ubuntu was gentoo, then i got sick of gentoo taking forever to change simple stuff, switched to arch, got sick of arch breaking, switched to nixos and haven't had any reason to switch to something else. before ubuntu I used slackware
meme distro supported by like 7 trannies in germany
avoid at all costs
i seriously only switched to ubuntu because it had auto-mounting of arbitrary hotplugged discs/devices out of the box. once every other distro had that as a package or by default I didn't see the point of ubuntu anymore
You are expecting too much of a operating system and probably have OCD that you should get medication for before it ruins your life. Windows just werks if you need general use, gaming or office/uni work done, Mac just werks if you need general use, or office/uni work done, Linux just werks if you need general use, programming or privacy done right. Just pick anything that suits your use case
Yeah I have pretty bad OCD and paranoid delusions. I have other issues too but you're right probably lol.
I have to do these little rituals that I do. I check if I locked my door three times or so (and loudly say to myself that I did it) by trying to open it.
In the past I used to turn off my Wi-Fi on my phone so it didn't somehow magically decide to upload all my files to the internet.
Same with IQfy. I restrict Firefox from being able to access anything but the Downloads folder so it doesn't magically upload all of my files on IQfy or something.
>stressing over all your files being auto dumped online
its moronic but same
Look into Qubed, maybe it will give you peace of mind
>I restrict Firefox from being able to access anything but the Downloads folder so it doesn't magically upload all of my files on IQfy or something.
tutorial
You sound mentally ill based on how repetitive your post is.
I don't like modern bloated apps. I liked them simple like they were 20 years ago. Software is so shitty these days that compiz would perform better and it was made solely for fancy things. We have neither fancy things nor speed. At the same time it's actually even worse in all aspects: Look, ease of use, accessibility, performance, functionality
- No menus -> No menu shortcuts discoverability. If you don't know the shortcuts it's even harder to find the action you seek. Menus allows you to find and learn functions of the program you didn't knew exist. I can find a function I want in GIMP without looking up a manual. If there was no menu it wouldn't be possible.
- silly icons/symbols instead of meaningful icons or icons with text -> weird symbols not resembling anything, wtf is this thing
- Buttons without edges -> Is this thing a button?
- Fat titlebar with buttons inside -> So they wanted to get rid of titlebar to save space and at the same time they made the region even fatter because it now fits buttons there. At the same time they made dragging the windows by titlebar harder. On Linux it is not that problematic because there is Super+Mouse for moving and resizing window but not every system has this.
- Autohiding scrollbar -> Removing the ability to see where we are in the document and the clue that the frame is scrollable at all.
- Removing minify window to panel/dock button -> If you have no shortcuts/don't know the shortcuts you are incapable of doing something that is fundamental function of a window manager.
- Removing tray -> Programs don't close and are being left. If you don't need them they are still running. If you need them you can't bring it's window on the screen. Pure moronation.
Upboat.
Just install Debian with flatpak, problem solved.
KDE will still be outdated. As well as system libraries. I have native Linux games which have no Flatpak packages (because they are paid) and are not on Steam.
I heard they'll get rid of snaps in a few months
>Debian
outdated software (Debian sid is broken right now)
What the heck are you talking about?
sid on my PC is totally fine right now.
>sid and testing get frozen from time to time when they're working on the new version
important patches are still delivered even during such a period.
Right now when I tried to upgrade to Sid it wanted to remove a lot of packages. Like cups and KDE, among others.
If so, try to install "Debian Stable" without DE.
Then upgrade to sid from the CUI environment.
use purely functional distro like NixOS
their official repository is also huge, bigger than AUR, which is insane
NixOS has a strange file system, which might break some applications, and I have heard Appimages don't work well on it.
Also to learn a programming language just to use a OS...
Nix language is like a scripting language, very easy to learn, nothing complicated like C/C++
>NixOS has a strange file system, which might break some applications
patchelf
>I have heard Appimages don't work well on it
there's no need for appimage
easy
$ nix-shell -p appimage-run
$ appimage-run $AppImageFile
everything in NixOS is possible, you just have to do it the Nix way
>Arch
>no support
ive never used arch but isnt it always touted that the wiki could carry you through anything youd ever wanna do or is that freetard bait
It's true, there is an article for almost everything.
Alpine Linux.
alpine is for containers and not desktop
imagine not installing everything you want how you want from base
imagine using someone elses software list
how pathetic do you have to be
how much of a novice do you have to be
how dumb do you have to be to not have your own software list
it's just a single text file with a package list
you're fricking dumb
don't use computers anymore
I'm sorry
Calm down you moronic Black person subhuman. Look how easily you lose your shit just by reading text on your screen.
u mad? u seem mad
An oh so cute attempt but you already sperged out IRL.
All the operational systems just sucks, have days that I turn my PC on and give up of using it for anything. Linux suckless for sure, but still sucks, I'm just trying to stick to less softwares possible and anything that can give me headaches, that's why I stopped to use rolling release distros. I'm using Mint Debian Edition, but if you want to have less issues possible you can use too:
> Linux Mint
> Zorin OS
> Pop OS
> Debian
> Devuan (If you want something without systemd, that isn't Gentoo or Slackware).
> Alma Linux and Rocky Linux (Yes, they are for servers, but will not give you so much headaches depending of your usecase).
One problem with these distributions is that they lag behind on important improvements. Like Mesa on Debian is too outdated to have RADV_PERFTEST, which from my experience massively improves performance in Wine video games.
Maybe I don't repaired at that because I use flatpak applications to run video-games (Like Heroic and Steam).
>unusable outdated software
Most moronic statement. Oh no this package wasn't updated in 3 months I'm literally gonna die now. Why even update software that already works perfectly fine? have a nice day updooter.
You miss out on important bug fixes sometimes.
What are you talking about? Debian is literally the most stable Linux distribution and important bug fixed get shipped immediately.
Yes, they are using the LTS version of KDE but haven't bothered to update it to the latest LTS version.
>using a DE
reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetard
Why would I waste my time using a tiling WM? Unlike half the morons on this board, I don't need to pretend to be cool to use my system.
>Why would I waste my time using a tiling WM?
>wastes time with DE instead
I waste no time and I'm more productive than you. You're not even employed by Shlomo the Chomo... I work 10h a day for him just so you know.
>i work so hard
loser
Why do you need to look cool?
Good, the latest KDE sucks ass
he said LTS, moron.
Regarding Arch:
>breaks quite often
The only time it „broke“ for me was a defective nvidia driver
> takes time to install and configure
Its definetivly not your standard installer ans all works out of the box distro, but its a good primer to get familiar with your new system.
But yes, everything comes with pro and cons. In fact thats the basis of engineering, to balance this pro/cons to the best of your usecase.
For Debian:
It was a while back, but for getting startet it was decent. And for my servers it is still my first choice.
>until they forced snaps on you.
nobody gives a frick, the only reason you hate snaps is because IQfy and reddit told you it's le bad. keep falling for memes, anon, you're doing well.
they forced snaps on you.
>just don't install it
guess it's easy to avoid "being forced", just do nothing. you done lying yet?
I just tried out Kubuntu.
The snap version of Firefox:
>didn't use the system theme
>didn't use the system cursor
>didn't even have maximize/minimize buttons
>had blurry fonts
What a shit experience.
>What a shit experience.
You used KDE Plasma so what did you expect?
How is it KDE's fault that Snap is so bad?
you forgot about one
There's nothing to forget, if you have a life.
i have lenovo legion with nvidia and use nobara but it still sucks ass. theres is no future for this combo
You can remove Snap from Ubuntu. But I agree that it was a bad decision to force them on the user. Ubuntu is no longer a go-to distro recommendation for newcomers, in my opinion.
As in just ububntu or its derivatives too? Mint is honestly a pretty Kino beginner distro since it's super friendly to the windows user paradigm
Use a mac. Superior hardware. Never log in or create an icloud account. Use homebrew to install all applications (since you can’t with the app store without logging in). Install something like LuLu to limit telemetry to apple. gg
Never thought I’d be this comfy
>Fedora
just use copr
Any opinion on Linux Mint, anon?
It's literally Ubuntu LTS without the snaps
(I haven't used it in some time so i can't remember if it came with flatpak packages pre-installed)
(don't get me wrong, i'm still not a fan of self-contained packages)
I like Linux Mint but KDE just has features right now which Cinnamon doesn't (like stable Wayland, HDR, FreeSync)
Use Kubuntu.
>Modern Linux distributions suck
imagine not installing packages yourself, you a baby? you a techlet? you a novice? distros are literally for morons
Apart from having to compile drivers, Ubuntu has been nothing but nice to me. I might branch back out into Fedora and Mint someday.
Arch is fine your just a moron
>Tries Debian unstable distribution
>It's broken
Shocking news
Mint.
RPM Fusion is defacto default repo though. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if fedora devs were secretly running it to circumvent their moronic license policy. Can't talk about what suse is doing though
>Can't talk about what suse is doing though
Literally the same, Packman is a "third-party" almost everyone has anyway. Probably run by the SUSE team to avoid glowers.
