It's good.
it is in fact better in most respects
I would say it is considerably better than Alice in Wonderland content wise. I would probably say Alice in Wonderland is better written but I can make the case either way, Phantom Tollbooth certainly says more and does so without talking down to children or preaching. Not suggesting that Alice in Wonderland talks down to children or preaches, it doesn't.
The Phantom Tollbooth was surprising prescient and what it teaches is far more valuable to anyone not living in a cave but if I ever have children they will get both.
Alice = cool and fun
Tollbooth = secretly educational
How do I write a kids fantasy story, pals?
You don't have to be a pedophile but it helps
Frick you, I liked it
great book. reread it many times.
Phantom Tollbooth was WAY better than Alice In Wonderland. What are you even on about?
see
Is there a movie version? The scene in the live action movie version of Alice in Wonderland where Alice drinks a potion and starts growing turned me on as a kid. I'd like to replace this memory with something wholesome.
There's an animated version from the 1970s. There are a couple of scenes with memetic potential.
Excellent, will be watching. Thanks!
It's free on youtube right now.
I will as well. Didn't know if I'd ever see it. My girlfriend told me she rented the tape ages ago and it was a behind-the-counter "only because you're a trusted customer" with a deposit situation
It's thematically deeper than Alice in Wonderland because it's about how people process and conceptualize knowledge whereas Alice in Wonderland is just random shit that people pretend has something to do with math (it doesn't).
The Phantom Tollbooth movie is the only theatrical animated feature directed by Chuck Jones, who is arguably the greatest American animator ever.
> Alice in Wonderland is just random shit
Holy filtered
Comfy kino. Alice is still better, though (no children’s book is better than Alice).
