They do, if you use the versions in the mpv-dp4a/ sub-directory.

            Anonymous

Interesting, so the hardware accelerated versions aren't just for vulkan, but anything that uses spirv compilation? Unless I misread something. What's the usecase for the non-dp4a then? opengl-only? Sorry I'm terminally moronic.

            Anonymous

Sincere apologies, I'm moronic and half-asleep. I meant the non-dp4a directory. It still has fp16 acceleration but not dp4a support.

            Anonymous

Well, the one I tried was a non-dp4a version and it didn't seem to actually work, so rip I guess. I didn't try the "main" denoise/sharpen models though.

            Anonymous

Hm strange. Just tested and both the dp4a and non-dp4a shaders work on my laptop with d3d11 on both vo=gpu and vo=gpu-next.
The ones in the main mpv/ directory use the same underlying code as the ones in the results/ directory so if it doesn't work neither will the other.
Would you mind posting the console output?

            Anonymous

There was no output when I tried it, but I'll retry when I get back. I'm on AyyMD if it matters at all.

            Anonymous

My laptop is running integrated AMD graphics as well so that shouldn't be an issue.
I'm wondering if you were actually triggering the passes? The shaders are configured so they only run if the output dimensions are >1.3x the input dimension so it might be that.

ching chong bing bong but there's technically nothing wrong with that auto profile outside of maybe target-peak (this is only useful for tone mapping). it just checks if the video is pq gamma, and if it is, then it enables passthrough (but honestly why not just keep target-colorspace-hint on at all times? seems pointless to hide it behind an auto profile)

I've been watching my blurays with mpv recently and if I seek backwards with the arrow keys the subtitles get frozen on a future line until another subtitled line plays, is there a setting to make this not happen? Picrel, she didn't say that, this dialogue hasn't happened yet.

one of these might help, but it's not a trivial issue, which is why it doesn't just werk

        Anonymous

It doesn't seem like demuxer-mkv-subtitle-preroll helps, but if it's actually a tough problem to solve there's not much I can do I suppose. Thanks for the help anyways.

Are you playing the bd directly or ripping it? It only works with matroska containers

            Anonymous

are they in mkv format? or are they actual m2ts bluray files?
there is a separate container-agnostic option mentioned in the text i linked, but it's slower
but yea, the problem is that there's no subtitle commands at the frame you seeked to, so no change happens, you have to read further back to find the last subtitle command, which is naturally something they don't want to do by default since that's more work (slower)

No, not mkv, I'm watching literal blu-ray discs in my disc drive. I'm assuming hr-seek + hr-seek-demuxer-offset is the other option? It also doesn't seem to fix the issue, it's a minor issue anyways so I'll just live with it.

            Anonymous

yes, but you also have to have hr-seek enabled as well, and the offset has to be big enough to reach the last subtitle, the bigger you make it the slower seeking will be since it will have no choice but to decode that much extra video
i wouldn't worry about it unless you're doing something like jumping around looking for something to screenshot and need the subtitles to be correct

            Anonymous

            >the offset has to be big enough to reach the last subtitle
I see, I probably set it too low then, I'll play with the settings later, I'm too tired to keep futzing around with mpv tonight. Thanks for all the advice
            >unless you're doing something like jumping around looking for something to screenshot and need subtitles to be correct.
Who would do such a thing? Haha...

          >I've seen that, not sure what the takeaway is supposed to be in my situation.
That sub styling for subs at the same time isn't standardized, and mpv reads it differently then intended. I think.

          Anonymous

it's because .srt was never intended to show multiple subtitles on screen at a time (as in have a new line show up before the old one has disappeared), so technically that would make your subtitles invalid/malformed
libass renders it in it's default method, which is to place subsequent subtitles above the previous as to prevent moving the old subtitles (to make them easier to read)
the solution here is to fix your subtitles so you don't have two lines starting at the same time

      --scale-antiring=<value>, --cscale-antiring=<value>, --dscale-antiring=<value>, --tscale-antiring=<value>
Set the antiringing strength. This tries to eliminate ringing, but can introduce other artifacts in the process. Must be a float number between 0.0 and 1.0. The default value of 0.0 disables antiringing entirely.

Note that this doesn't affect the special filters bilinear and bicubic_fast, nor does it affect any polar (EWA) scalers.

display-vdrop is unironically the most "correct" vsync behavior. it's what madVR does so it's obviously the only correct way to handle vsync. video-sync=audio is what VLC does and VLC has garbage frame presentation, and display-resample is only useful if you want to rape your audio

Hello friends, I come from the land of MPC-HC + MadVR. Specs are:

    i5-7200u (2-core 4-thread 3.2ghz)
    16gb dual-channel DDR4 2400mhz
    Intel HD-620 integrated graphics
    1366x768 6-bit + FRC shit laptop display

99% of the time I download anime (sometimes movies) in FullHD and watch while downscaling to 720p. What are the best up/down scaling algorithms and various configs for my specs and usecase?

With MPC-HC + MadVR I could use Spline + Anti-Ringing chrome up and Lanzos + Anti-Ringing image down without dropping frames, however I believe some "lower" settings (catmull-rom, mitchell, etc) might actually be better for watching anime.

I already testes the default high-quality setting in mpv and my frames are good.

      >1366x768 6-bit + FRC shit laptop display

      >What are the best up/down scaling algorithms and various configs for my specs and usecase?
does it even matter for such low quality display? default hermite is good enough

      >I already testes the default high-quality setting in mpv and my frames are good.
no shit, it has nothing to do with downscaling

        Anonymous

        > does it even matter for such low quality display? default hermite is good enough

I can see the difference between Lanczos/Spline and Billinear for example, with Spline based algorithms being a bit softer. It's a small display so the pixel density is fine, and the color is basically 8-bit which is ok.

        > no shit, it has nothing to do with downscaling
You're always doing chroma upscaling so you'll always be impacting performance, not matter if you're doing image up or downscaling. I only included that line as a base measure for what my system can handle. If you don't have recommendations, kys.

          Anonymous

          >You're always doing chroma upscaling so you'll always be impacting performance
          you're right, sorry
anyway, I think defaults are the best for both upscaling and downscaling, so, yeah, can't recommend much

If you're on a moving object like a train or bus the motion causes slight relativistic effects, so it's expected behavior.

what you may call a bug is in actuality a feature with the software known as mpv

could be clock drift, which can be caused by many things, such as temperature
at the end of the day, computers are still physical objects and aren't impervious to physical phenomena
this is compensated for where it's required, but clocks are not an easy thing to get perfect, they basically never are. this is why whenever you need multiple things to be in lock-step, you need to supply them all a common clock source, since you simply can't sync two separate clocks, not perfectly
pic related, example of an external clock generator to keep two RF capture cards and an audio adc in sync with each other

            Anonymous

This doesn't make sense to me personally. The issue is clearly software related. The estimated refreshrate drops to 143.853 and then it stays that way unless I unfullscreen and then refullscreen again. If it was truly clock drift then it would be lowering at a gradual rate instead of staying at 143.853. mpv is doing its vsync averaging incorrectly somehow or there's a bug somewhere. Also I'm pretty sure this wouldn't even be considered clock drift anyways, clock drift is when the audio and video run at different rates, which gradually causes them to go out of sync over time. Audio plays no factor here, so it's not a reasonable explanation.

you're think of a specific case of clock drift, i'm talking in a more general sense

Again, if this truly was some kind of fricked up video clock, then the pixel clock would be going down gradually instead of locking at 143.853. This just looks like fricked vsync averaging to me, which is obviously a less sexy explanation then clock drift.

            Anonymous

it could be an mpv issue, i'm not saying it /is/ clock drift, just that it could be, and i'm talking about the clock your gpu is driving the monitor with, not even really anything to do with software, in the case of a fixed inaccuracy perhaps clock error would be a more fitting term

Well, whenever I have time I'll have to gather some proof that it's an mpv bug. I don't remember this happening in older versions of mpv for example. I'm pretty sure whatever update broke this also broke vsync with vulkan, because vulkan produces a large amount of mistimed/delayed frames when it didn't used to. There are other programs like madVR which also use display sync, so I'll see if the same problem occurs there. But if I remember correctly, this started happening during the nanoseconds conversion.

Is --merge-output-format mkv the same as --remux-video mkv

I don't want to re-encode any of the streams. I just want to copy them as they are into a container that's different from the containers provided by Youtube. At some point the flags seem to have changed, and I'm not sure if this the first one (the new tag) does the same thing as the old tag.

Why is Mpv completely broken against ffmpeg-9999 right now?

I can't even play an audio file with mpv -v --no-vid

I guess I'll have to restore from my snapshots and see where it breaks.

It was a PipeWire issue, I fixed it by restarting PipeWire. I don't even know what was wrong with it.

        pw-jack mpv -v --ao=jack
        Was broken.

        mpv -v --ao=pipewire
        Was broken.

        mpv -v --ao=pulse
        Actually worked!

I don't even know how it got into that state but that's Linux audio for you.

how do i stop mpv from loading the entire file into ram instead of seeking from disk?
    >be me
    >have 150 mb anime episode
    >open in mpv
    >mpv now uses 400 mb of ram
    >delete the file (even as soon as it's opened)

but windows usually doesn't let you delete a file while it's in use
If I delete a file while watching it on the windows built in media player, it says the file is in use and cannot be deleted until i close windows media player
this doesn't happen with mpv, which means mpv isn't accessing the file at all

      --cache is network related
you want to look at --demuxer-max-bytes and --demuxer-readahead-secs and --demuxer-hysteresis-secs
      opposite of --show-profile=big-cache
      https://mpv.io/manual/master/#demuxer

        demuxer-max-bytes=5MiB
        demuxer-readahead-secs=10
        demuxer-hysteresis-secs=10
to config, didn't help at all
I can still open a 25 minute video, delete it as soon as it's opened, and I can still watch/seek the entire thing without problems
        ram usage is the same
also fyi: no, cache isn't network related, I use it for when I load stuff from my (local) hard drive so that it can spin down afterwards, and I'm pretty sure all the stuff you mentioned doesn't do anything unless you have cache enabled

God mpv shader caching is so SHIT now. If your gpu driver changes or windows OS installs a new version, mpv's cache building lags every. single. time. you go fullscreen when loading new videos. You have to manually DELETE the cache folder to fix the problem, then once re-cached, never happens again. Until the next driver update that is...

Frick the nu-devs, this never use to be a problem.
