Pretty much Sappho and Sor Juana are the only ones that come immediately to mind. A few other latin american female poets are good, but Sor Juana is the one I reread the most. Lispector is the obvious answer but I’m sure she’s too white to count.
Rosario Castellanos, Alejandra Pizarnik, Luisa Valenzuela, Elena garro, Gabriella Mistral are all very good too and I’m sure I’m missing some. I’ve tried reading some of the newer talents, but none ever really caught my attention except Valeria Luiselli and her last book fell flat. Tried reading Mariana Enriquez’s newest novel but it’s too childish to take seriously, like an overinflated ya book with adult themes. I liked Fernanda Melchor’s Hurricane Season, have not read any of her other works. Nellie Campobello is another one that’s good but I haven’t read much more than Cartucho and a few of her poems.
i choose to interpret "non white female" as anyone who is not a white female, in which case many of my favorite authors are not white females - in fact, all of them
>not reading the analects >not reading the tao te ching >not reading the mahabharata >not reading the art of war >not reading the tale of genji >not reading journey to the west
Tried it but cringed at a poorly-written, overly detailed and unnecessary sex scene. Yes you're adult fiction congratulations. Cool magic system but the 'only people from one country can handle the power" is weak sauce.
Martha Wells. The "Murderbot Diaries" are well-written and hilarious.
Frickin awesome series but Martha is white as the driven snow.
N.K. Jemisin. The Broken Earth Trilogy was fricking based.
NKJ is an absolute ledge. Broken Earth trilogy does spec fic right, and triggers bootlickers as a bonus.
If you had made it further into "Jade City", and not wussed out at the graphic cunnilingus scene, you would have encountered the pedo scene, with the girl described as "pale and awkward".
Having to deal with nonwhite females on a daily basis I can safely admit I have no interest in what they have to say. Familiarity breeds contempt. Having Asperger’s makes interaction with womem a chore.
thats a good question. i can name a lot of non white authors because i read Japanese literature but no female authors come to mind(except manga which doesn't count).
im more that willing to read them, i just havent come across them

i guess eiko kadono technically counts, but shes only "favourite" by being the only female
It's quite telling that you somehow never came across The Tale of Genji or The Pillow Book and that your list looks like as if it was pulled from reddit or goodreads, but go off sis.

not mentioning Shonagon is criminal, she came to mind the instant i saw the thread. A lot of japanese poetry was exclusively written by women since men just spoke chinese.

Not that anon but I don't support e-girl romance.
is Mieko worth reading? What is she like? I saw her book recently in bookstore, pretty cheap, some srot of confessional autofiction prose?
She sure is hot, and maybe its good to get hot female perspective once in a while, i wonder what she thinks about.
I never fully read one of her books, I only maybe read about 10-20 pages of one of hers at a Japanese bookstore I go to. It made me dislike her prose. It felt too quick and almost intentionally unendearing if that makes sense. I'll give her a fair shot someday, mostly because I want to read more female authors, especially feminist ones, but definitely not the book I first read. Just be cautionary about which book of hers you decide to pick up
>non-white author
huh?
>female author
huh?
>non-white female author

it's quite true, no one would ever write that

What, the "horn's kitten" chapter of the first book? That was the only one I remember. Get over it, child.
