Lot of people on welfare have jobs which subsidizes the labor costs of megacorps, or have a real disability that prevents them from working. There is a book called A Sociology of Hikikomori by Teppei Sekimizu that is the authoritative text on the subject and has interviews with hikikomori.

Hikkis are a more extreme form of NEETs, some NEET still goes around and get out.

NEET's are the aristocrat philosophers of the modern age, that's why everybody hates us.

NEETdom is a dangerous path, few could live like a NEET for long time

I have managed it perfectly fine for nearly 16 years with sparse employment, i live in a country where there isn't a set time limit on how long you can live on benefits though, i prefer being unemployed, like everything you adapt eventually.

No, because such a story would be incredibly boring and epic cringe.

      >No kino drama about a NEET within conflicts with himself as he try to return to society

You're a limited man that can imagine the possibility, low IQ probably.

Fiction is mostly about wish fulfillment. Who the hell would want to read such a story? Other NEETs? They don't have any money. What would be the drama? "hurr durr i used to scroll all day but now i only scroll 6 hours a day wow what a breakthrough."

Only one that comes to mind is Welcome to the NHK. Haven't seen the anime nor read the manga but the original novel is pretty good.

"Welcome To The NHK" is unrealistic wish fulfillment. Right off the bat, the NEET protagonist meets some girl who, for no apparent reason, dedicates herself to helping him. Wish fulfillment is one thing, but this is totally never going to happen in real life

I don't really think that's a problem at least in the novel. It doesn't focus on any romantic angle unlike the anime (at least from what I've heard of), and it's almost entirely about exploring the NEET psychology. Plus the ultimate twist with the girl is portrayed in a fairly disturbing fashion and the ending is definetly bittersweet.

Oblomov was a satire of Russian intelligentsia. So you're fine with being a living joke?
