Nietzsche reading group

A lot of pseuds here lately talking about Nietzsche with a cursory or even no reading of him.

Let’s fix that, a reading group for all his major works, we start with The Birth of Tragedy, then on to Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense, and ultimately conclude with Will to Power. If you are using Kaufmann as translation I suggest you get the anthologies the Portal Nietzsche and Basic Works as they have a lot of the works we will use. If you are new to Nietzsche and want to get your feet wet, read his criticism to Birth of Tragedy attached as preface, should be enough to let you know if you want to continue

This first week we read BoT. If the reading pace is too fast for you, let me know. Next week we start the next work and I’ll post a thread on it إن شاء الله

Honestly a great pity how Nietzsche has been torn ruined by all the braindead homosexuals on this damn board. Nobody here has read him and everyone says of him whatever they want him to be

Ironically so, most of the morons on here calling him a lost moronic incel could get life-changing ideas and views from his works. Instead of being lost autists instead

It’s always christcucks that seethe at Nietzsche, literally no one else. They will never give him a chance because of the simple reason he calls out their religion in his writings.

Christians maligning him extensively without reading him is the exact opposite of what he did, he read Augustine, Aquinas, the Bible, and many others and formed a very detailed opinion in comparing it with what it was rivaling and reacting against. Christians however just project negativity onto Nietzsche in a resentful reaction, thus ironically proving his criticism of their religion

          I've read 5-6 of Nietzsche's works. He's an idiot.

you must be an idiot then if you keep reading his works

and honestly, if he really was just 'an idiot', you wouldn't feel the need to come in and shit up every nietzsche thread. i know how to spot posturing when it's really obvious. you only post like this because you can't actually formulate coherent responses to him, he just rustles your jimmies and you take out your anger here because nobody in real life will talk to you about this stuff any longer.

I recently finished BoT, coincident with the recent deluge of Nietzsche posts (something in the air?). The popular conception of Apollonian as “critical, detached, observational” and Dionysian as “active, immediate, wild” seems to barely scratch the surface of what N. was attempting to get at, and I felt myself often lost and pondering exactly what the two mean. It may be reducible to nothing more than an aesthetic impulse, but N. seems to give no clear answer. I ultimately decided the most succinct way I could explain the dichotomy to myself was Apollonian as “being seeing” and Dionysian as “seeing being”, or maybe “being seen”. NANVV

Please reread the criticism of the work Nietzsche wrote years later and prefaces it will. He wrote bot when he was very young and his preface clarifies how his position later changed, for one thing his complete break from Wagner and Schopenhauer but also his rejection of the dichotomy he set up as too simplistic and based on the “German” concept of reason versus ecstasy, a very Protestant worldview arising from seeing Protestantism as reason and Catholicism as pagan ecstasy cult

Spot on for me. Seeing day-to-day life vs seeing the horror underneath.

      Cool Thread.

Could you have a second take on what you think is more deep than surface level apollinian/d?

      My most easy take would be;
A; Surface in a good manner/Building/"acquiesced". A is "rome", culture, FORM.
      D; Chaos, ever changing.

Nietzsche has another take on that in refering to a picture. It shows Greek culture on the upper half, kinda animalistic figures in the lower. The lower is the "tiger" part. In reference to the Tiger part culture is build, kinda; in fear, at least in acknowledging that tiger part culture is build; as a bastion.

This is where also a sentence from"Truth and lies in a nonmoral..:" kicks in; Man build their "terms"/"Definitions" ("BEgriffe" in German) cause they >>no longer want to bear the aprupt views".

I ever translated the "views" with intuitions; hence my interest in your take on the seing part; viewing is intuitive acting in my opinion, and here lies the connection to the whole complex of want/will.

      Well.

      My more complicated take than would be the ongoing fight between A and D as a agent of history itself;

asking: why does D break through A? Where our A-take aka Want/Perception is broken?

it is also the quesion of the fall of rome since rome stands for form/acknowledgement of form itself.

      cheers.

I don’t think this strict dichotomy is something he held into, in Genealogy we can see he has a more complex outlook than the dialect here and revised his understanding of these categories

nhaw. It is christianity there that defeats the apollinian take.

i would like to write more so you would fight me, but this is plainly it.

there is that absolute crucial part where he goes: All 5 finger were in anarchy. That is why the greek took sokrates/ moral.

spoiler: i do not take "the antichrist" too serious. The important matter is that people are not strong enough, with a stress on how christianity is a cope; Not that christianity is solely compromising.

Yet, what goes by as ressentiment is a ressentiment against apoll; form, etc.

Question then is; how does apoll/form let it happen that your senses go buckwild/that your senses are in anarchy?

          >close relation between senses and acting.
          >morale=aesthetic=perception

I found the Apollonian to be appearance, in Kant's terms, and Dionysian being as much a unity of perspectives as possible (becoming).

        check.

        dionysian is dissolving.

The terms are not as important as what they say. Greek culture/gods are just a keen chiffre.

In BoT, Dionysus is the Will and Apollo represents the refraction of being

Herro book frenz, I will read some of Mr Niche along with you.
I have a question, anyone else read Hiking With Nietzsche? It's written for the average person and has some fluff but overall it's a decent introduction to Mr N.

WtP on Nietzsche's account is a natural phenomena but one that individuates.
Contra the Stoics, we are never MORE in tune with nature or even the cosmos when we are inhabited by WtP, as WtP is the fundamental force of nature. This is why one might claim that slave morality is somehow 'against nature'.

Do we agree with Heidegger that this itself is a form of nihilism?

i do not. There is that short take on how will to power bends what is happening to your sight; pretty close to occult/thelema kinda stuff.

Problem here is how anything is justified only through will then; Which is probably nihilistic and not even sought for by 93/thelema.
