I can get it. It was clearly a song that was very raw and personal by an artist who cared about the music more than the success only to watch as it becomes one of the most popular songs to ever be played on the radio. That basically causes you to skip over the rise to fame and go from just another musician to one of biggest faces in the scene virtually overnight without any preparation, it would be jarring. What's worse is that he's now considered a one hit wonder instead of an indie artist doing his own thing since he never intended to get the fame nor follow up on the success and now his career he loves is forever tainted as "hey do you wanna go see that guy who made that really popular song in 2010? He's playing in town tonight."
I have no sympathy for people like this and he would be at the intersection of maximum upside and minimal downside. Go clean toilets where someone has smeared shit all under the seat for no reason and then complain. Even a couple million would set you up for life and i doubt he gets harangued in the street 24/7.
