I actually read this. I remember that evening I went to a bar looking to argue with a woman about feminism. Suffice it to say, she fricking destroyed me. What's worse, a circle a semi circle had formed around us at the bar counter with college students in chequered shirts cajoling and egging her on. She fricking annihilated me on the spot. She approached the arguments in such an intelligent way. Well, I'm definitely an ally now. Also a trans ally (have been for about seven months now). So yeah, frick this book.

    >Fig 1: The author winning an argument
made me kek. come to think of it, Cicero probably published the original with exactly that on the cover as well.

learn how to lose an argument, OP. most people can't. they go into things wanting their point of view confirmed, not challenged and improved. you're better than that.

      >le everyone can teach you something
Stfu, most people are pig stupid and I'll absorb their hypothetically interesting ideas in pace of my own argumentation against their general position.

Better than what? Being a passive receptacle of other people's points of view?

Now you move onto inoculation theory to see how it ties into propaganda and persuasion. By winning the argument, you are solidifying their pre-existing beliefs and making them more defensive about their worldview. Not only did you turn against them, but now they will remember the negative feelings and psychological reactance you caused them to feel. It's no longer about truth with either of you, just the emotional reactions played thru both of you. Did anyone gain a better understanding of the truth here?

So what you're saying is we should be false flagging in order to reinforce our own side and avoiding arguing with opposition.
