I remember when that new connector came out, it was immediately obvious it was a bad idea.
Honestly, if AMD GPUs weren't so far behind the RTX 40 Series when it comes to rendering performance in Blender, I would have happily gone with the 7900 XTX instead. I really don't like that Nvidia is currently the only feasible choice for 3D rendering.
Both are fessible choices for casual shit. Professionals don't waste time on shitty gayming SKUs.

they switched to the new connector 6x6 12v almost a year ago
and nerfed max power in firmware
so newer 4090 with these connectors are safer
they are backwards compatible and look very similar
but it is still a shitty connector
