Ugh. Just go read from Ai to zombies instead.
What does this book even do anyway?
Also that painting is sick.
If you're a brainlet? Nothing. If you have a brain? Makes you ponder the limits of the human mind and how they affect our knowledge and perception of the world. Unfortunately, most people fall into the former and respond with "bro, but, like, how is it like useful to my daily life? I've never actually seen one of those noumena or whatever, who fricking cares, dude."
I'm honestly one of those brainlets. Filtered hard. I went back to the greeks, checked out some descartes, and on hume now; will get some secondary literature on CoPR before I try it again.
Imo CPR is self-contained enough that you can read it without the Greeks meme. It certainly has a lot of implicit references to contemporary philosophy, but a well-annotated translation would just expound on those in the footnotes.
I really don't think people should just raw do COPR. Reading some Descartes and Hume is instrumental in understanding Kant. I also think Aristotle and Plato can't hurt. Now, I would agree that you don't need to read the entirety of Western philosophy up until that point first lol
I too was once a brainlet but Kant made me into a brainchad. And he can make you into one too.
>I've never actually seen one of those noumena or whatever, who fricking cares, dude
damn you're telling that most normies are actually correct this time?
>normies
jej
>Unfortunately, most people fall into the former and respond with "bro, but, like, how is it like useful to my daily life? I've never actually seen one of those noumena or whatever, who fricking cares, dude."
and they're right
>books
>doing things
It's good for you.
>wake up
>realise I fell asleep reading the transcendental logic again
happens every day
>happens every day
I commend you efforts. Keep going.
GOTT MIT UNS
Does Kant's argument mean that moronic/comatose people don't exist?
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! TIMMY'S CRITIQUING PURE REASON AGAIN! TIMMY, MOM'S GONNA FREAK!
unironically just ordered my copy. felt rather inspired after reading that article which formalises Kant's transcendental logic (in effect, as geometric logic). fascinating stuff.
I have three different translations sitting on my shelf and several volumes of secondary material on it. I want to dedicate my life to this book, but I know I will never understand it. I keep them all around as a reminder of my own stupidity and incompetence, as a reminder that is useless for someone like me to try.
where there is a will there is a way
Some of us have had our limitations shoved in our face so hard that it's impossible to ignore them.
you are the only one standing in your way
you're missing Kant: A Very Short Introduction by Roger Scruton
>contemporary secondary literature
lol no thanks
but it's by the eternal Scruton
i agree that it's technically self-contained but much of it will mean nothing to you if you don't know what he was reacting against. it's like learning category theory before abstract algebra - it's doable but there probably isn't any point. besides, if you wish to fully appreciate kant, you'll need to familiarise yourself with Leibniz, Descarte, H*me, and others (Plato and Aristotle too, of course) anyway
>eternal Scruton
cringe
>it's like learning category theory before abstract algebra
My man. As I said, good annotations could save you the hassle of starting with the Greeks if you don’t have the time for it. There are programmers out there who don’t know a thing about groups and rings beyond definitions and yet manage to tackle categories for their functor crap.
lol, the notion that a man will undermine his own house is contained in the section itself.
