Don't give your parents a Linux device. It's not worth it.
That being said, Arch is perfectly stable.
Will it be Linux
I didn't say Arch isn't stable
macOS isn't a distro linux
Unironically this, why even bother with all this linux shit especially for normies who don't give a shit about tech when MacOS perfected the Unix desktop experience but freetards are too proud to admit it
macOS
i gave my parents an ipad, just so when the scammers call, they can say that they don't have a computer.
what about arch isnt stable
I didn't say Arch isn't stable (2x)
I know Qt haters, but you're the first GTK hate that I know (thx for the suggestions)
By Stallman's beard, make a suggestion
>More Qt haters than GTK haters
That's because we there are considerably more stupid / clueless people in this world.
That's also the reason why democracy is a hilariously idiotic joke.
Kubuntu
OpenSUSE Leap with KDE Plasma
These two are made for mouse using normies.
Don't install ubuntu or anything with GTK based desktop.
Remember: GTKancer
ubuntu
normies don't care about toolkit wars or developer experience
Is it ok with the snaps?
slight delay on app startup. they're not going to notice
nobody notices snap delays anymore, even after a cold boot on a fresh install, and I'm speaking off an old x230 experience
No, GTK is terrible to the end user too.
All GTK applications, struggle with performance, and have a very poor cross-platform functionality when it comes to native themes.
just give them windows you moron
No
trying to force linux onto them won't work, they'll just replace it anyway
Not like they are going to play videogames anyways.
highly doubt OP's parents would be willing to learn a whole new OS just because he doesn't want to use windows
doubt his parents even use windows considering he is purchasing them a laptop.
Windows is not the standard OS btw.
>Windows is not the standard OS
it's their first laptop, they're using only smartphones
if they only use smartphones they're not going to want to learn all this shit just because of OP's linux autism
I see no problem
It looks more lightweight than Ubuntu
enjoy watching them get it replaced or just stop using it
t. mad wintard
lmao at this cope for being told the truth of what happens when you try forcing linux on people
Says the one forcing winblows to people who only use smartphones.
I'd say kubuntu, though osx is moronproof so there is that.
Unironically an iPad with a keyboard.
ignore all the homosexuals fighting the real answer is Mint xfce
how about the flavor?
>how about the flavor?
?
I don't understand the question
Linux Mint 21.3, Xfce Edition is the ISO to download and flash onto a USB with rufus. do not use etcher
give your parents a mac you fricking moron
crapple's ecosystem is the most boomer friendly right now
giving your parents a troonix machine is outright evil
All they're going to do is use a web browser, it doesn't matter what OS he gives them as long as that one thing works. Hell a dirt cheap Chromebook would be fine.
debian or alpine with XFCE, anyone saying anything else has brain damage
OP is a moronic contrarian and wants to make his parents life miserable
If he wanted them to suffer, he would install win11.
>implying the mobile-like OS with huge buttons and handholding wouldn't be top 3 options for parents
Another stupid contrarian making a moronic post. And to think linux schizos were supposed to have high IQ.
you parents don't care about the distro, what you have to do is set it up for them so they can use the computer with as less friction as possible.
install the distro that is the less painful to set up and manage / maintain since you are not going to tinker with it and neither will your parents.
to me Ubuntu is the best choice as it has a good enough UI, works OOTB thanks to great drivers support, lots of packages that are easy to install and a LTS that just got released a week ago.
either Arch + xfce or Debian + xfce
make no compromises
slap mint on it. looks pretty similar to winshart, should be easy enough to get around.
>I will install linux
premeditated crime will get you life in prision.
