I used to program in Pascal back in the 80s. That was actually a very good language. Imagine C but with better parsing, saner syntax and greater safety. The problem with Pascal was the shitty file I/O, so that each compiler had to add a different non-standard set of I/O functions (hello Turbo Pascal). Also, it's not used at all in operating system development. I would like to be proven wrong on this last, actually.
After the mess that has been made of C by the GCC people, I wonder if I should maybe get back to Pascal.

this is just a choice I think you can find a few hobby OSs on git but nothing big.Problem is unix legacy shit. I agree with you its a better language in all regards. It should definitely replace c in university curriculum since you can teach students low level stuff without moronic syintax.
Biggest issue they dropped in education Delphi back in 00's was because you had to pay to use development tools, whereas C++ and Java were free option. (and still, actually if you want to do something that needed third party libraries, you'll end up paying up the ass for them since it's propietary all the way down). Still, learned Pascal/Delphi while working for healthcare software company that used Delphi in their development, wish Lazarus wouldn't be multi-window application.

Visual Basic is a better programming language than Pascal and more powerful too.
variable declarations in prologue
It's a very good language if you work with bank systems

I quit Pascal because of crap tooling and lack of system libraries. Things may look better now (I wouldn't know), but it's too late.
Some people like FreePascal. I don't know, Double Commander let a good impression on me, so i wish that particular implementation luck.
The language has some pretty interesting toy compilers.
