true. I bought a bunch of staples gel retractables thinking I'm set for a couple of years. They dried out in a year while inside the box with sealed tips. To the trash went my money.
Well that's the difference between being a hobbyist and being a guy who just uses things practically. Same thing with computers. Some people get all their work done on smart phones and others custom build PCs powerful enough to cause a brownout on the city block. At the end of the day, it's just people having fun.
I spent like $5 on a 3 pack of sakura pigma micron PNs because they write sharp, permanent lines on literally every surface and don't skip or frick your shit up in storage like gel pens. I won't sign shit with ink that washes clean off with water, alcohol, or acetone and I will never fill out a paper with ink that bleeds, smears, and feathers so bic and fountain pen gays frick right off.
Sometimes having some change to spare and doing 5 minutes of research is worth it. Or you can end up a redditor who pays $30 for somelamy/kaweco that does the same thing as a $5 platinum preppty for 6x the money. Or the same thing but worse as a marker for 20x the money.
Oh yes fountain pens
If it is at least waterproof it bleeds, smears, or feathers
If it does not bleed or feather it smears
If it does not smear it bleeds or feathers
And maybe the guy making the ink is a colossal frickup so it's a little different each time, so he tells you to melt your pen's feed and recut it
micron pens are more known by bible study guys than anyone else because they won't bleed through thin shitty paper. that must be why neckbeards love fountain pens (which would ruin a bible fast) but pass over microns entirely.
who tf uses a pen?
(mechanical) pencil is just the indisputable best. try doing trig or geometry with a pen loser. gonna derive harmonic oscillator by hand with a pen? didn't think so.
People throw these on the ground as fast as they pick them up. They barely work and the ink isn't even permanent. These skippy pieces of shit are only good for filling out inconsequential guest books. Its 1940s tech so you should not be surprised that it's junk.

I've seen people ask this question for the better part of 15 years. Everyone who isn't lazy enough to engage in auto-pay on everything and find out later that they've been paying $20 a month for some bullshit service that they don't use anymore because they forgot to cancel. I just paid off a car using checks. They send me a bill with an envelope and I mail them back a check. Never had to deal with their shitty, buggy, loan-shark website once.
Gotta select the right tool for the right job. Mechanical pencils are ideal for the use case you're talking about. Pens are better for other use cases. In particular, when we want things to be permanent.
Any ballpoint pen will do, if you need to use a mechanical pencil, chances are, you may need to erase because you made a mistake, in which case you should be drawing on the computer anyways.
papermate made the best line of disposable pens ever to have a bit of greenwashing for their brand. then they killed it for absolutely no reason. greatest ergonomics and hand feel i've ever had.
Based. You need to hand in what you learn on as a kid. As an adult I need to note my failed steps to review where I went wrong, plus the deep green is captivating and blue ink is for feds and the crippled
Sarasa refills have an open top (vs. the G2 refills, which have a cap of sorts). I took a plastic pipette, stuck it in the top of the refill, and cut it to be a little bit larger than the M63 so it got smashed into place when I tightened the pen. It works pretty well.
See, I like Bic, but this particular type of pen just sucks for some reason. The round stics with the grip are great, The Bic pens with the hexagonal shape and the rounded cap are great too, but these round stics without the grip just suck. Do they use a different type of refill? They never write well for me, and that tiny bit of weight reduction/ergonomics from not having the grip seems to make a big difference in terms of the feel when writing. It's not just a mind over matter thing. I've been using Bics for decades, and my opinion hasn't changed in all these years.
They generally work better than the non-disposable ones (since they are expected to sit filled up and ready to go for ages on a shelf) and are between the cost effectiveness of cartridges and the messy shit that is bottled ink
a better question is what's the point of fountain pens when gel pens and fineliners are just as smooth? the answer is: art supplies.
oh no no no you can't just put horns on israeli bankers on your red and green ink labels - don't you know that devil horns are an incredibly specific anti-semitic trope that only anti-semitic bigots use? how could you do this to me noodlers?
Yes, they are worth it. They can feel super smooth on paper and require zero pressure to write, so it's damn comfy to use them. I had tendinitis on my wrist all my life and writing used to be a major pain, literally. After discovering fountain pens I gradually started writing more and more again. I still don't understand the meme posts here since I avoid reading most of them, but Lamy is a great brand for begginers. I still have my Safari that I bought in 2008 for university. Works perfectly every time and will last a lifetime, unless you drop it nib down (that is an unfortunate reality of fountain pens, you really have to baby them).
Speaking anecdotally, getting a couple of fountain pens really drove me to improve my penmanship and start journaling/writing more, which has done more for my mental health than talking to a head shrinker ever has
Their quality has gone down over the years. I bought one way back in highschool many years ago for drawing. Great lead holder. A couple years ago, I bought my sister one for Christmas and it looks/feels like cheap shit compared to mine. Like the knurling is made of some kind of cheaper pot metal and the plastic is more brittle-feeling.
In a pinch maybe but for extended writing this screams you have shit handwriting and your professor struggled to read a damn thing you wrote with the ink smeared across the paper

I've seen that. But I think that's because they don't last long enough to get to the meat of stuff (eg. programming). >and let's be real here these ppg threads are kept alive solely by bumps and bic/everything is a meme anons.
No arguing against that. The board is too fast for a general that doesn't have much to talk about too frequently.

I got a LAMY Safari rollerball and it writes very poorly. The LAMY M63 refill is horrendous. Has anyone else tried one before?
I am thinking of just tossing the refill and finding a spacer that'll allow me to use a G2 or Sarasa refill.
I have cast away the shitty refill.
Sarasa refills have an open top (vs. the G2 refills, which have a cap of sorts). I took a plastic pipette, stuck it in the top of the refill, and cut it to be a little bit larger than the M63 so it got smashed into place when I tightened the pen. It works pretty well.

Why does IQfy hate the Zebra F-701?
zebra quality has gone downhill since they moved production to indonesia and mexico
because 90% of the cost went into the body rather than the refill

so that people too lazy to refill and maintain a fountain pen can still feel superior to ballpoint and technical pen users
Why would you put extra work into a pen that doesn't work? I'm pretty sure it's just a marginally smoother rollerball equivalent.
