I Just have a Platinum Preppy or Jinhao 992 for such occasions or have an additional ball point pen for plebs.

Recently got me a stainless steel Kaweco Liliput in EF and i fricking love it as EDC.
It's a bit on the drier side with the EF nib and Pelikan 4001 ink so i have no trouble writing on cheap printing paper either.

The only people who think Bics are even remotely acceptable are those who press down like maniacs when writing. They don't realize that not having to press down as hard is the primary advantage that pens have in general over abrasion-based writing instruments such as pencils. Bics are so bad that I refuse to use them even though I can get them literally for free.

If only I had figured this out when I was still in high school. I could have avoided killing my forearm during school and college (yes, I'm one of those people whose notes could fill up entire books).

Technology is the continually developing result of accumulated knowledge and application in all techniques, skills, methods, and processes used in industrial production and scientific research.
Pens are not only vital to industry and science, they are also the result of science and industrial production. They were actively developed by humans for centuries. Industry could not exist without pens, pens in their current form could not exist without industry.

Real thrift chads focus on price to quality. The value of my pens i didnt get for free is <$5 and i use an iphone SE i bought for $30. I only have pens for the rare paperwork/check and writing down directions for rural/wooded areas. I almost never write otherwise. Using a keyboard is more cost effective, so a rarely used pen must be 100% permanent and reliable. One pilot g2 is less of a waste than 8 bics. Money spent on subpar goods is as wasted as money spent on pure luxury.

Every single bic and fountain pen was dry and would not write on the first 3 tries. Even the platinum preppy was a hard starter. I threw away everything that would never sell on ebay.

Every single pilot/uniball worked flawlessly. Every sharpie and micron worked flawlessly. $1.50 a pen tops. Worth it. $0.03 pens? $3+ pens? Not usable as pens.

      >Every single bic and fountain pen was dry and would not write on the first 3 tries.

Why do you need more than 1 or 2 pens with ink in them at a time?
As long as you use a fountain pen at least once every day or two, it will never dry out. It's probably the same with bics.

They’re all swag pens, stolen, or gifts from coworkers and exes. My last ex bought matching TWSBIs and wanted us to write letters to each other (didnt last and neither did she, I caught her watching dog porn)

Fricking nobody uses a pen every day or even every two except for hipsters larping as novelists and coming up with ways to waste ink (“bullet journaling!”)

Pens are inconvenient and inefficient. If you need to do more than scribble down a phone number or sign a form you’re probably using a computer. The last time i wrote a paragraph by hand? Last Christmas. I used a pen that hadn’t been touched in months. Thank god it was a sharpie so it actually worked.

It's actually relatively recent (my guess is probably something to do with tamper proofing documents, fountain pen ink being water based, documents would be relatively easy to be tampered with or fade away)

            Anonymous

Ballpoint ink isn’t tamper proof either being oil and dye based, unless you mean they use pigment or cellulose reactive rollerball/gel pens. If i recall they also make tamper proof fountain pens and drafting pens that outclass rollerballs, but there’s no government authority that rates loose ink, only the drafting pens (relatively expensive for a business) are certified archival.

      >the process of tampering would destroy the paper
There was a mail fraud epidemic in the US due to the combination of boomers using checks and boomers using bic pens. Acetone washes bic ink clean off pretty much everything without damaging the paper unless your particular security paper has acetone soluble security print on it. Today a lot of checks do, but a lot of cheap/free checks don't, and some businesses still want your name and credit card info mailed to them. Like my dental plan. A document washer could use such a document to use my money to pay for their dental. But they can't, it's literally impossible. The security bug was patched when I used the $1 pen I keep around instead of a $0.03 pen I stole.

Until everyone gets off their ass and modernizes, pens are an issue, but it's rathr simple

      RULE 1: Bic is trash.
RULE 2: Fountain pen = goes in the bin.

redpill me on lead holders, do they stay sharp or do you have to sharpen the tip for thick leads?

      [...]
Brass tip and buttons. The tip is still the original bit but with the chrome removed but the button was custom made. I feel like this was an extra touch to make this even more so personal. I would love to have a blue torched look for my fatter graphite sizes (5.6,3.15,2mm)

        Anonymous

This was made for long term uses. I draw and write for long periods of time and would get a sort of fatigue whenever i go past 2 hours of using. Having a thicker grip places less strain on your hands due to the amount of pressure you'd typically have with a more slim grip. Plus the tendons in your fingers will have less stress!
If you have a King Sized Sharpie laying around try holding that cos i think those are also around 14mm in diameter to hold.

I'm a strong advocate on ergonomics my friend.

nah writing instruments are a mature and deprecated technology with no frequent use outside of the arts. for non artists, there isn't much to say. gel pens and markers won. everything else is even older tech in a field of old tech and has terrible flaws that make them bad for how people use pens... very rarely and only for very important things. although i am sure your bics or bulk noodlers ink and platinum preppy are more cost effective once you finally finish handwriting that novel or complete 5000sqft of ink sketches.
