How do you live as a smoker? I bought a pack cause I knew I'd be seeing a friend and drinking and smoking, and I didn't want to mooch off him. I had one, it felt great. I start smoking them, had 2-4 for a week, I felt fricking sick. I tried to do my workout, I had no stamina, I was weak as a baby.
No smokes at work. No smokes ever. I keep a 100 around in a box and rarely take one.
Why doesn’t it ever enter the minds of anti-smokers that I want to die quicker?

Used to be a heavy smoker in my 20s. Quit that and any other drugs I consumed in heavy fashion.
Nowadays I just pack a pipe or buy a cigar and smoke once during the weekends while having a few shots of tequila or whisky under the sunlight to unwind. It's very zen and the little nicotine and alcohol actually helps you find your center.
But avoid cigarettes, and physical dependencies, at all costs.
nicotine is a psychological dependence but other than that spot on.
It's unlikely that I'll get hooked because it makes me feel bad. Same with drinking, never been at risk. Weed though? Saying weed is safe is a bad lie cause the fact that it's soft and didn't make me feel sick is what allowed me to keep doing it for over a decade.

I haven't read either of those, but typically, people who read Moby Dick for the first time complain about the chapters where Ishmael catalogues all the different types of whales, or details the specifics of whaling, but those were some of my favorite chapters.

They're my Goldilocks cigarette. They're just right.
Though I would prefer a soft filter over a hard, they're still the best. Camels come close, but they're more of a once in a while smoke for me. I prefer the inoffensive smell and flavor of the spirits for every day smoking. They also have the best strength:cleanliness ratio. They're strong, but not overwhelming. It's a clean kind of 'high'.

I'm about halfway through. I scoffed when I read folks talk about this as Faulknerian and comparable to Absalom, Absalom!, but I'll be damned if that's not actually a good analogy. Kesey's command of shifting perspectives and voices, and the clarity with which he transmits that to the reader, is mind-boggling.
Whatever Kesey’s views were he disguises them well. It’s hard to not sympathize with every character once you get their perspective. I love the ending
