There's a very real possibility that the topless gnome girl in that book was the first pair of boobs I ever saw in print. I had that book when I was four.
that fricking book
when i was a kid that book was one of the weirdest books i owned. i can't remember who gave it to me
i don't know what happened to my original copy
original copies always seem to cost a fortune but i think there was a reprint a few years ago. i must track it down sometime
Start with 'Leven en werken van de Kabouter' obviously.
I have the English translation of that book somewhere. Odds are it is an original print given it was my mother's when she was a girl (she is 51). I'll need to find it. If I get a hold of it, I could scan some pages and post it if y'all are interested.
Brilliant!
I also used to think that these are poems written by gnomes about gnomes and for gnomes. Some disappointment for me was that this is not entirely true, although ...

There are a lot of stories about mischievous and crafty little people around the world and I genuinely wish to know more or of them
For example, the alux and chaneque
Is anyone else ancientgay enough to remember the David the Gnome television show? It blew my mind when I later learned it was originally a Spanish show. MFW I was watching dubbed anime this entire time.
*crushes them underneath my boot*
Yoo frickin wot moite?

Gnomes can be very brutal. They can kill and flay you if you curse in their forest or home, or bother them in any way.

I now love gnomegirls
all hail the gnomes
My grandfather had this book and I loved reading it when I was a kid. I wish I had it, but unfortunately I have no idea what happened to it.
One of my middle school teachers had this in her classroom.

Peer Gynt.
Start with the Yule Lads. They're considered the Ur-Gnome by scholars. They're the missing link between gnomes and Santa
Wow those scholars must be really dumb. The gnomes are clearly an itteration of the indo-european fairy myth, and has no relatiob to santa.
>indo-european
Cringe
What?
gnomes and santa (nisse) are related in scandinavia
Only by coincidence. One does not come from the other, they are entirely different in origin.

Classic cartoon. Would also recommend Doctor Snuggles
I remember thinking it was some weird anime for so long as well.
The Spanish speaking world seems obsessed with gnomes for some reason
Man, the ending of the show was really fricking sad, not even joking.
