NEET, UK, burning ~£400 per month. I have £20k left before I run out of savings and kill myself.

I'm somewhat hoping I get out of this deep depressive episode and get myself a job so that I don't have to kill myself. But honestly it's not looking great.

    Wish me luck!

I've been doing it for 14 years. I'm hyper-skilled in the field (literally and figuratively), and I'm paid accordingly.
The only reason I'm not running the place is that the lead has another 6 years experience on me. I generally do run the place if he takes one of his (rare) days off or holidays, and the owner isn't on site (which isn't even slightly rare).

Italy has a crapton of taxes (free healthcare at least) so it's around 84k after taxes... at least my rent is 550/month for a huge place and I'm building a new house so everything is dumped there

if I wouldn't mind about the terrible weather / bad food / bad quality of life and no sea and mountains, I would go back to UK and earn approximately 13K more after taxes with the exact same contract

      It is me, OP. Like

Freelance means you pay double the charges and your hours need to be competitive

said, it is not as much as you think. I have to pay my health insurance, pension plan and everything else that your employer would usually pay for you.

How did I do it? I just registered as freelancer, and began marketing myself to recruiting companies. You can do it without any problem.

Also, I would say that I am not cheap, but also not expensive. In West Germany they get much more.

        I wish.
No my day is mostly spent unfricking the previous infrastructure's teams failures, maintaining legacy code bases, replacing legacy code bases. Getting the other teams to actually automate their testing and deployment pipelines.

The "director" part is only because the people that report directly to me are middle managers.
