      >many cheats could then just run on the host, manipulating or analyzing the VM in a way that would be invisible to Vanguard within it
What stops somebody from running Windows in a VM and doing the same?

Anti-cheat has never, ever, ever, ever, ever stopped cheaters and it never will. Just like anti-piracy bs, all they are doing is hurting real players.

maybe I'm wrong because I'm not a homosexual who plays league or valorant, but some anti cheat software can detect you're in a vm (on windows) and block you. I imagine this is also the case with vanguard

There is no true cure all for cheats(on the client side) because any competent cheat developer can just go
          >lmao xd
And put their stuff a level above the anti-cheat.
          >anti-cheat fingers your entire machine's butthole like a doctor doing a prostate exam

The sad part about this is that cheaters were never even a problem in league, even if you cheat every single game you can barely ever win a game solo. The reason this shit got added was because big streamers kept crying about muh cheaters when it was really just stream snipers, which won't get fixed by anticheat.

This is what I don't understand. I don't play myself, but all my friends who play league say there's no cheaters. Why do they need Vanguard?

I've played thousands of games through all elos and have only seen a handful of cheaters in that time, yet the article they posted states that there's a cheater for every 10 games. It's clearly a pretext to implement this malware.

I want to go back when we had old GP and ARAMS were custom-made games.

I only played a few games of Dominion and Twisted Treeline. I didn't play that much in those times--just normals with friends. I picked up the game seriously during the pandemic, but even in the span of a few years, the game changed so much--and not in a good way. I stopped playing a lot about a year and a half ago but uninstalled completely once I heard about Vanguard.

Only if the vm exposes that information. It does by default but you can disable it

every year this becomes less of a shitpost and more of a sound recommendation. I think they have done it; they made new games obsolete just like there are 0 movies i know made after 2020... maybe 2018... idk....do they make movies anymore? Same for games.Btw I am watching a movie right now: Baby's Day Out made in 1994 - it is funny to ask if movies even exist while watching one. And yes, there is a woman in the room. A real one. I am not her.

Vanguard never worked on Valorant. I still cheat to this day with basic authotkey shit. This shit doesn't work, never will.
Besides being malware by definition, Riot have been breached in the past, they didn't audit this shit at all and they're already on full damage control.
Someone at Riot is one commit away from fricking a gazillion morons, they don't care, you don't care, it's a fricking disaster.

    Vanguard might make cheating harder, (eg you might need a Raspberry Pi to read out ram then send back mouse input) but it is so much more reliable to just make anti cheat on server side;

eg send ghost players behind walls to players and see if they react to it to figure out if they are wallhacking or only send opponent locations when they can actually be seen

afaik, vanguard just arbitrary screenshots your game window during the game and if it sees anything that is not supposed to be there, then you'll get banned.

why the hell would it need root access then? it 100% does more than that.

            Anonymous

yes, it obviously needs more than that. But screenshot thing is enough for detecting almost all wh cheats. Root access needed for triggerbot/aimbot that are certainly harder to detect.
