            Yea, the real one is probably a bit faster the Mac mini uses 39 watts at full power.

            The m1 iPad uses up to 14 watts of power, the 8 gen 3 uses up to 12 watts of power (way too high for a phone lol)

            Still pretty impressive tbqh.

            It uses a little less power. But it uses way too much watts for a phone.the a17 pro uses a lot less power max, it uses 8 watts at most compared to the 12 watts on the 8 gen 3.

            No, the x elite is for that sorta stuff. The cpu and gpu is on faster than the rog ally and legion go (the x elite plays worse in games though looking at early benchmarks). The problem is it is a power hungry chip, it goes from 23 watts to 80 watts.

            I wouldn't be so sure about that. The M2 would draw up to 32 watts in the Air that had a fricking tinfoil for cooling.
            Still loses in raw perf to an 8th gen i5.

            Pretty respectable then. Sure, they aren't touching M3 or god beware M4 like this but M1 is basically the perfect chip for <13" laptops and tablets, so having something on par is a pretty big deal. Especially if they can make it reasonably cheap.

    x86 (x64) is practically a monolith. Too many people have software relying on the architecture. Sane people aren't just going to accept a new architecture without a VERY good reason.

      Deep down modern x86 is also RISC and only from the outside CISC. Performance will be decided trough vector processors and driver support. And because x86 has better support for most software x86 will ein.

      The future is ARM thin clients talking to custom-Si or ARM servers on backend. It's actually happening: Amazon is already doing this, Google and all their services are on the way, MS... will figure something out or just sell Surface thin clients. Apple already makes the thin clients and they're all custom-kinda-ARM. The big purchases on the backend is stuff like NV Grace and custom silicon, Intel and AMD are desperately trying to jump on the bandwagon with "NPUs" which are just custom Si interposed with an X86 chip.

      X86 really is dead. It's just that QCOM didn't have anything to do with it. It was Apple (client) and infra companies (AMZN, GOOG, NFLX) all deciding to move away from X86 for different reasons.

          Notebook+PC accounts for like 5% of internet traffic and an equivalent share of e-commerce. Everything is done on phones+tablets talking to servers, which are admittedly still mostly X86 but not for long.

    ultimately it doesn't matter. the moment we get a 50% speedup, webshitters will immediately expand the scope of their shitware to use up that performance gain and we will return to a steady-state condition where each webpage takes ~2 seconds to load.
