Reading 8 hours a day

If I want to read 8 hours a day, how do I prevent myself from getting burnt out by the 3rd or 4th day? I usually can do it for 2 or 3 days in a row, but then I get burnt out. There must be a secret to improving one's stamina.

Read less, take breaks, do a bit of meditation.
The mind can't go on forever, and you can't force it to do things it doesn't have the energy for.

      >The mind can't go on forever
Why not? The limits are artificial. I just need to find a way to overcome them.

Even monks that train their mind constantly get tired, and you haven't trained it for decades like they do.
You can gradually improve your tenacity but it doesn't work by sheer force. You need to give your mind time and attention and learn to recognize the signs of low energy.

Don't get addicted. Try and make it a rare sometimes thing.

I have to get addicted to something to learn this and then I'm good when it comes to not overusing drugs.

The body and mind are (mostly) naturally self-regulatory but when we become too focused on goals that are disembodied, inhuman, self-imposed, quantitative as opposed to qualitative, then we are fighting against our bodies and minds instead of working with them. It’s definitely impressive to be so ambitious, but I think it is unusual and perhaps not reasonable to be setting a strict goal of 8 hours daily. Samuel Johnson recommended 5 hours for young men; the majority of even avid readers do less. I would recommend enjoying the process of reading as this anon says () and acknowledge that boredom and mental tiredness are our mind’s signals to change what we are doing. There is danger of overtraining the mind as well as the body.

      >The mind can't go on forever
Why not? The limits are artificial. I just need to find a way to overcome them.

The limits are not artificial, they are very real. They are intrinsic to being human.

you won't be able to retain that much info it'll just bleed into itself, that and I can't imagine it's enough stimulation to keep the brain engaged...if you wanted to do 8 total youd probably have to divide it to 2 hours morning, 1 in the day, 1 later, another 1-2 later, and 2 at night...but at the cost of normal stability, 4 hours is already a good total for a enthusiastic reader imo

    >If I want to read 8 hours a day
maybe you feel as if you should read 8 hours, but in truth, you don't actually want to do so.

a small subset of neurons in your brain cannot dictate reality to the totality of your brain. also, your brain burns a lot of calories. so be sure you are feeding that fricker properly if you want performance

Reading is not natural, everything about reading is man-made, so that why your body rebels against it. Don't do it too excessively.

Also use the Pomodoro Technique, meaning:
    >25 min reading
    >5 min break
    >25 min reading
    >5 min break
    >25 min reading
    >5 min break
    >25 min reading
    >15 min break
    Then one session is over.
You can do like 2-3 sessions a day if you want, but don't overdo it.
