I have an old book(Romanian bible from 1914) I am interested in reading, however I don't understand 1/6 of the words and expressions listed inside.
The expressions I have found aren't even listen online nor are a good chunk of the words I don't understand listed in the dictionary.
How does one read archaic books and squeeze out all the meaning out of them when 1 out of 6 expressions/words are unintelligible?

Did Romanian really change that much in only 100 years? I can read Elizabethan English literature without much difficulty, it's part of the standard curriculum in American primary schools. Did the commies butcher your language or something? This is crazy.
Was going to say this, perhaps a dictionary from that era may work?
>Did Romanian really change that much in only 100 years
Yes it has, it went from importing greek/turkish words to french words to german words back to french/english words then russian words and then finally english words.
You forgot importing Slavic words since forever (e.g. in op picture - proroci).
I am talking about the 1700s onwards not all of history
bump
>Did the commies butcher your language or something
Nah, just romanians worship anything foreign while almost always being a part of an empire's sphere of influence, wether in name or not, which dictates what information and "high" culture they can access and pretend to be learned and well traveled individuals with while at the same time being obscenely poor as shit and pretending to not be with the elite capitalising on this fact for more than several centuries, while also hate anything local even if its objectively better as it isn't associated with rich people.
I am neither sure what the name of this phenomenon is but having a national iq in the mid 80s sure plays a role in all of this.
Because Middle Bulgarian was the langauge of governance in Wallachia, it got heavily slavicized.
Later they purified it by importing French words.
What?
Oh wow that’s really interesting
Guess you’re gonna have to go through that really slowly looking up a lot as you go
>Guess you’re gonna have to go through that really slowly looking up a lot as you go
The problem is a lot of the words aren't even on the internet
Read it alongside a bible that you do understand, you fricking moron.
Basically what said. If you truly can't find any dictionary for that particular version of the language, you will simply have to consult an edition written in a modern language.
>an edition written in a modern language
Not many conform to my standards for what a bible should have
Don't tell me you're one of those KJV-only gays.
No, I'm an orthodox, KJV is for catholics
>ackshually
Dude, just replace KJV with whatever the Orthodox equivalent is. The meaning of my post still stands.
There isn't any, each majority orthodox nation state usually has their own orthodox church or has branches dedicated for it from the ones nearby/the dominant ones(russian/greek orthodox churches)
which is? and what is the version of your bike called
>bike
Lol
>what is the version of your bike called
See
. However the one i am trying to read is the 1914 romanian orthodox bible.
Compare against a trustworthy Bible and dictionary.

These are also good, BLB has Strong's lexicon.

You shouldn't be so full of hate for your neighbor.
People hate the KJV (and those who use it as you just showed, proving you're not in Christ) because it's God's words preserved and translated into English and based on the majority text used by the body of Christ throughout the centuries even under the worst persecutions; and it doesn't let you have it your way, it doesn't conform to religion and theology and an impenitent heart and life of sin, like hating your neighbor which Christ equated to murder in your heart. You clearly want to be saved in sin rather than from sin, because you clearly have no hope as it stands. The Anti-KJV cultists like you claim to be so smart and intellectual, but you're as anti-intellectual and hateful as the unbelieving heathens and that's the typical extent of your arguments, hate for your neighbor.
The prostitute of Babylon hates the KJV more than any other Bible, and that's quite the endorsement. But the "Orthodox" and "Catholic" churches are full of idolatry and man's mental gymnastics to justify disobeying God's plain words and bowing to and serving and kissing and praying and praising statues and paintings against the letter and heart of God's law, and you can see practical applications of it throughout scripture so it's really not up for debate as the idolater hypocrites claim. We ought to obey God rather than men.
>an unironic KJV-only gay
I finally found one in the wild.
no kjv in romania
Why do you think the Bible is God's word? what convinced you that this was the case?
Use a dictionary specifically for older versions of the language
When reading 17th century Dutch sources I always have a page open for early modern Dutch
Rest is just practice and accepting that you won't get everything. I don't understand anything in compilations of jokes from the 17th century, especially if it is filled with political satire. On the other hand theological treatises are fine
>Use a dictionary specifically for older versions of the language
Do you know where I can find one for 1900s-1910s romania? What kind of universities or departments should I email if I don't find it here?
>the dictionary
There's no "the" dictionary, there are different dictionaries, with different goals and of different size. Find a bigger/more detailed dictionary, especially a historical dictionary (e.g. in English for older literature you can check Oxford English Dictionary, probably there's something similar in Romanian, e.g. dictionaries published by the Academy).
Do modern Protestant Romanian Bibles use 1-4 Kings and 1-2 Paralipomenon or have they switched to the English custom?
It's an orthodox bible.
I do not know anything about romanian protestants
Since it's the Bible, doesn't matter how archaic the publication is, since you always can look up these verses in literally thousands of modern languages, so you'll always have perfect knowledge of what X verse is trying to say.
>Since it's the Bible, doesn't matter how archaic the publication is, since you always can look up these verses in literally thousands of modern languages,
Gonna have to contradict you. The old testaments of bibles are usually based on either the masoretic or septuagint. The new testament is even more of a trouble. Add to that, that individuals may have nefariously mistranslated a word or two and now you have nowm idea what you are looking at.
Not even to mention the many different christian denominations and their different bibles either based on the septuagint, the masoretic or an older bible which uses one of these 2 or an even older bible which all have their own issues regarding individual mistranslations and church dogms differences.
Wow you sure are oppressed. Longpost about it some moar.
homie what are you saying?
What a piece of shit of lenguage you have, tagalog tier.

>anon is interested in reading a bible
Why wouldn't I be?
so buy a modern bible like the RSVCE and compare the verses
or look them up on the internet at least 10,000 websites for bible studies
>so buy a modern bible like the RSVCE and compare the verses
Not based on the septuagint
>archaic
>1914
The romanian language has changed a lot in 109 years
Could you give some examples of sentences you can't read? Can you read this?
I can read this without issue.
What I cannot read is:
