Reads for how master manipulators do what they do? I don't want to do this but I want to learn how to write a character who is a manipulator.

What is a master manipulator supposed to mean? But people usually prey on vulnerable targets, there is no "magic" to it.

And adding some to it, some people who are "fricked up" tend to look for manipulators, and have this repetitive pattern of being abused.

Like people who are able to get followers who obey and idolize them. I've been reading about Larry Ray's cult of college students and it just blows my mind how somebody was able to do that.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Lawrence_College#Larry_Ray_scandal_(2010)
        >While there, Ray started a sex cult in which he presented himself to students as a psychologist and spiritual advisor; in 2011, he induced some students to move into his apartment in nearby New York City.
He basically took advantage of vulnerable people. "Regular" people won't get into shit like that, because they have their own shit going already. This is more of a "lost people" thing, and considering that students are like 20 something years old, which is a phase that people tend to be lost in life and deal with some existential dread, I don't think that someone like that would have much trouble taking advantage of those suffering from it.

Imagine that, you are tormented by things, filled with doubts and not really in your best shape considering being able of critical thought. And suddenly some dude pops out of nowhere, he seems really sure of himself, says simple things to you, that are somewhat what you want to hear (it is never what you actually need to hear, they seduce you in some way) and just gets your attention. And it keeps doing this, day after day. You end up being hostage of it, because suddenly you won't feel like thinking about this or that, you will ask him for guidance instead of actually thinking things through, and this is when they get you, and it is kinda over. I think there is a book about a girl who escaped some cult. I remember seeing a youtube video, it was really interesting, I will see if I can find it.

So I guess the fabled "master manipulator" would be one able to induce this state with some degree of reliability in normal well adjusted people.

Both of these posts are true,
      but NLP is actually real.

Yes, it is, but people tend to go for the easier route. Just look at that Tate dude, he just spews a bunch of shitposts with controversial shit, saying that people should act and so on, while selling some bullshit course.

For a manipulator all humans are objects, this is the same state as the screaming child. The screaming child has not developed part-whole orientation, and so when the mother takes her hand away, the world for the baby has collapsed. The baby does not yet comprehend that the hand is part of a broader whole, being the mother. Once the child develops this they can then have more emotional stability and appreciate the mother more.

So the manipulator has a narcissistic version of this, they will react deceitfully when their objects misbehave. They never develop a broader view of the world, where these "objects" have a unquantifiable human value.

If the manipulator does not get what they want, they will scream and cry just like the child.
