          cultural differences basically.

Not a reddit example, but in Australia the word "c**t" can be used in place of where american's say "guy". So instead of "that guy" an aussie, without malice or anger may say "that c**t" or "these c**ts" or "those c**ts". He may even use the term for himself "chuck a c**t a beer aye" or he may use it as a term of endearment "frick you're a good c**t".

But to an American the word c**t is almost the feminist "Black person". An unspeakable "mysognynist" word only ever spoken in the most vile contempt and anger and usually directed toward women.

Completely different. Now that's not necessarily a reddit situation but, it's an example to highlight how differences in vernacular and expression can be misunderstood by someone of a different cultural background.

Then again I got banned from IQfy for saying on IQfy that 'jeets are bad programmers (which is an objective fact) therefore our moderation is arguably as bad.

This one has a very funny backstory.
Originally it was a lesbian subreddit.
        Then the trannies infiltrated it.
Didi a coup, removed the old mods and filled it with troon mods.
Started banning the actual lesbians for transphobia (not liking penis = transphobia)

Now it's a full troony subreddit.
The lesbians had to create a new subreddit. They got all pretty radicalized from the experience.

i have a specific issue with gay men, especially the very gay men. As in the guys that need to wear diapers or need to go more times to the hospital more often because they "EAT DA POOPOO".
It is an issue I have less with bisexuals, because they can balance it out and behave and I almost don't have with lesbians because I don't expect anything of women anyway.

i don't give two shits about reddit drama or reddit drama threads, but i am kinda curious how it is that apparently so many reddit mods are so incredibly bad at their job. is this just bias because i don't look into this stuff and only on occasion see threads like this? i'm not sure about that, since i would expect some kind of defence if these were outliers. how do reddit mods get chosen? is this perhaps just a demonstration how giving someone power pretty much always results in abuse?

        Anonymous

        >how do reddit mods get chosen?
reddit isn't like here where mods get chosen by some set standard or whatever. Anyone can make their own board and they are the mod of that. Then they just add their friends to the mod team. If an existing board gets abandoned by their mods then you can apply to the admins to take over as the new mod. If you join a board that you actually want to rule then you social engineer the existing mods to get yourself onto the team. Redditors make a new clone board damn near anytime they can't take over an existing board because everyone wants to rule their own echo chamber

yeah pretty much, but add one extra caveat, OP can also make your posts invisible to all users except the user who posted them so that his contributions are ignored but he doesn't realize he's been deliberately excluded.

add that admins have changed the mods of popular subs often

To add more, a while back they discovered that admins can edit user comments and that when they do it there is no system message generated to show the the comment was edited. The admin did it to someone just because he wanted to frick with him and change the context of his message.

Why is this relevant? Around the same time in an unrelated matter there was a man tried and convicted in a court of law (I don't remember why) and the damning evidence against him was his reddit comments. Theoretically an admin can set you up to go to prison.

            that doesn't make sense

Yeah it's a feature they added. So when users want to argue but don't want to deal with any retort they send an angry rant at the person then immediately block them so they can't reply to the message. Again, it's because the place is designed around creating echo chambers

I wonder if they're so strict about this because Reddit wants to make it easier to label posts and comments by topic when they train AI on it.

I've gotten banned and warned almost instantly and sometimes automatically on some popular reddit just because my messages didn't include a classifier in the right format, or because I asked for clarification from someone when the reddit specifically said all responses must be advice. And this is on the first offense. That's not consistent with wanting people to have a healthy discussion but it is consistent with wanting people to provide accurately labeled data for free.

Each subreddit has human mods as well as an automod and that automod can be trained to act on various criteria. You got banned right away for not tagging correctly and that was probably done by the automod.

Heavily moderating works well for subreddits that rely on factual data, like the science ones and can work well for some others. It's to keep shitposters at bay. Redditors have this notion that once the userbase for a given subreddit reaches a certain amount then they should all get to decide how the place is run and obviously that can skew information. That's what happened with the other anon ITT who brought up trannies taking over the lesbian subreddit.

That being said there are also overzealous mods who will even ban you if they run a search and find out that you have ever commented in a subreddit that they don't like. Doesn't even matter what your comment was.
